This is my second Vornado “AVH2 Advanced Whole Room Heater.” The unit supplies a gentle and constant flow of heat – continuous and not excessively hot – and the fan is very, very quiet. I like my bedroom in our drafty 1936-vintage house to be warmer than 70 degrees. The Vornado heater keeps me warm and saves on $4/gallon home heating oil because I can heat the rest of the house to a lower temperature. We used this heater in the unheated sunroom of our house (about 300 square feet or so with an eight-foot ceiling ) every night during the winter of 2023 – 2024 to keep our “inherited” 21-year old cat (Muffin) warm and cozy. It worked very well. I was never concerned about it tipping over or overheating during the night because it has a solid, stable base and the thermostat has been reliable. That made my very cautious electric-fearing wife happy. I am using the heater this winter in my bedroom (approximately 400 square feet with a nine-foot ceiling) as our beloved "Muffin" kitty (sadly) passed on to "Rainbow Ridge" this past June. (Rainbow Bridge - where departed pets go to wait for their owners. OK. I hope Muffin is staying warm this winter also!) ) Despite constant and continuous use during last winter, the unit still works like new and is dependable. It also has stayed cleaner than other heating units I have used - apparently because it has an "open" design so dust and dirt do not accumulate inside of the heating/fan mechanism. I bought another, similar Vornado heater several years ago which had the same design but had a metal housing (this one is plastic). It broke down after a season or two of use. I bought this to heat a 4 ft x 6 ft dog house. It worked fantastic. Dog house not insulated very well, but heater could maintain 60 degrees inside of dog house when it was 10 below outside. When I was setting it up for the second year of use, it would not heat. I called customer serve and told them my issue, they had a new on in the mail before the phone call was over. The second one worked the same as the first one, and again it would not heat the next year. The heater comes with a 5 year warranty. I thought that since I have had 2 replacements so far they would tell me I was out of luck. I was wrong. They had a new one in the mail before the phone call was over. I just asked them how long the warranty would be on this third one, they responded 5 years. It did not matter how many replacements you had received, each new one would be covered for 5 years. This is an American company and their customer service is in the U. s. Also. I have not had better customer support ever. This company is fantastic. ... show more

The 1 star reviews that talk about constant failure are correct. I'm now onto my third heater this winter. Each one fails in the same way. The fan stops spinning, the heater over heats and shuts down. The good thing is the safety features work and the heater doesn't catch fire when the fan dies. The bad thing is these die every couple of months. ... show more

This is my second purchase of this heater. Use year-round. Fan in summer works efficiently enough for me to skip air conditioning the bedroom. This one warms my office quickly and is quiet enough not to disturb Zoom meetings.

    • A Lifesaver During a Recent Furnace Malfunction

We used this brand and model of space heater when our furnace died during a recent cold snap. We were without heat for 4 consecutive days while we waited for a part to be shipped from out-of-state. In a 2000 square foot, two-story house, it was a challenge to stay warm and keep our pipes from freezing, as indoor temps reached 55 overnight the second night. We had 3 of these space heaters before the furnace malfunction, and we were forced to keep them running all night when the nighttime temp reached 15 outside. They didn't overheat or cause a fire. They helped tremendously, and I have purchased 3 more. Hopefully the furnace won't die again in the winter, but if it does, we'll be covered. We had this same model for a few years and it finally died. We bought the exact same one and when we got it, it turned on for about 30 seconds and then stopped working. Exchanged for a third one bc we loved the first one so much and so far so good. Heats a pretty large room. Like that to can set a specific temperature. Hopefully third time’s a charm! ... show more
