The pool water temp was 91° 3 weeks ago so I started looking for ways to help cool it down. Everything I was reading said installing a fountain and running it overnight would cool the water down 6-8 degrees. And yes it really does cool the water. When I was shopping for a fountain I did not buy this one, I bought a cheaper one and that was a mistake. That cheaper white fountain I bought lasted 6 days before one of the connections stripped out and was ruined. Then it was time to shop for another fountain. This time I spent the extra 24 dollars and ordered this one. The quality is so much better! The water stream looks better, sounds better, thicker plastic, worth it. Yes you can find one a little cheaper but there’s definitely a reason they are cheaper. I’ll save you the hassle….Just buy this one! ... show more

    • Impressed with design, but unable to use with my motorized pool cover.
The quality of materials and overall design of this product was excellent and that was never an issue. I did however end up returning it due to the following issues. 1. My pool discharges are low enough in the water that the vertical riser would need to be extended four inches to clear the top of the water. I built an extension adapter to using 1.5 inch MIP fittings. 2. The water pressure in my system yielded a fountain stream of only 4.5 feet 3. I have a retractable pool cover, and it rubs on the spray heads as it opens and closes. I could have lived with 1 and 2, but believe it would have eventually torn the pool cover. ... show more

This worked wonders for our above ground pool. It was bath water like at 92° and not refreshing. Two days after installing this it’s down to 80°!!! I received the Whale Tail quickly & it was packaged well. I was excited about using it to help cool our hot pool water. I installed it last night & it is 2-3 inches too short. Our pool guy was here today & I asked him if our return jets were lower than average & he said no. I realize they sell a short piece for $10 to extend the riser, but it seems to me it should come with the fountain. The riser is probably the cheapest part of all of them. I understand it may not be needed for an above the ground pool, but this is also advertised for in ground pools. It came with an adapter for larger jets in above ground pools & a few specific jets, but I have no need for it. I would rather trade the adapter for an extender. The product seems to be well made. If it came to the surface & I could see how far it would spray, I would give it a different rating. I am not sure at this point if I will return it or try to adapt it. I purchased the PoolHacker fountain in late June to see if it would help lower the temperature in our pool. We have an in-ground pool with an attached spa that overflows into the pool. Given how the pool operates (i.e., jets in spa are on while jets in pool are off) I had to install the unit in the spa rather than the pool. The jets in the spa are much lower than those in the pool so I also had to order an extension tube so that the fountain would be a few inches above the water level. Once I had all of the pieces, though, it was very easy to install and, based on the floating thermometer readings in our pool, it consistently lowers the overall pool temperature by 5 degrees. Our average water temperature before the install was 89 degrees while after the install we are staying around 84 degrees. Was hoping for more, but I think the overflow waterfall from the spa to the pool already provides some relief. The only downside to our setup is that I have to remove the fountain when we use the spa. Not a huge deal in our case since we don't use the spa much in the summer, and I will probably remove the fountain for the Fall/Winter months. ... show more
