  • Solid Honey Extractor
I purchased this in advance of my first ever honey harvest and was very satisfied with the quality of the product and the results (nearly 3 gallons of delicious honey from one full 8-frame super). A few notes: 1) Definitely give it a good cleaning with soapy water or a food grade cleaner prior to first use. There were some metal filings and industrial grease in mine when it arrived, which was expected (the instructions say to clean it before using too). 2) Be sure to tighten all the bolts well before use. This is essentially a centrifuge (operates just like a salad spinner or washing machine drum) and any imbalance can cause wobbling that can loosen bolts that haven’t been adequately secured. 3) The metal edge on the inside of the legs is pretty sharp and could possibly cut a finger. I’ve read some reviews where this was mitigated by sanding down the edges. I just put a strip of electrical tape along the edges and this worked fine. 4) If possible, bolt down the feet to further avoid wobbling. Otherwise your going to end up using your body weight to hold it down and keep steady. Overall, this product was easy and quick to assemble, functions well as intended, and appears to be well built for many years of use. It is also easy to clean with warm soapy water. For the price I’d consider it a good value and would recommend it to others getting into beekeeping/honey extraction. ... show more

  • Rarely give 5 stars to anything
Size: 2 Frames
Perfect for a small bee keeper with less than 10 hives. Compact, good quality stainless, well designed, honey gate works well, speed for extraction (gearing) works excellent. The only criticism is the legs are pretty flimsy but seem to hold up even with me (200 lbs) leaning over the extractor to hold it down. One should bolt it down to the floor (best) or a piece of 3/4 plywood you can stand on as you crank the handle as the amount of torque is serious. The gear box and I assume gears should last a long time as they are heavy cast iron. Recommended! ... show more

  • Works and is cost effective.
Size: 2 Frames
This is easy to clean stainless steel, easy to assemble. It came missing one of the leg bolts, however we found that tabletop use was easier due to shaking when turning loaded with one frame or two frames which do not weigh the same. Since it is hand turned it is harder to judge how fast to turn without damaging comb. There is also the ball bearing problem. There is a 6 mm ball bearing in the bottom bolt which is needed to allow the spinner to turn. We found that the best way to clean was to remove that bolt and take it out without turning it over then dump out the ball bearing into the hand to clean it. Trouble is that the wrench won’t quite fit over the bolt so an alternative is to not take off the bolt and turn over the whole machine, catching the bearing in the hand. This is a two person job, but you don’t want to lose it. If you do, just remember it is a 6 mm stainless steel ball bearing. They sent an extra o ring for the honey gate and an extra L bolt but no extra o ring for the bottom bolt so be careful with that one. Still, it works as advertised and is less expensive than most honey extractors. ... show more

  • Works nice.
Size: 2 Frames
Spins honey frames two at a time. Screw it to a board and spin at a moderate speed. Spinning too fast will throw off the balance. Was easier than expected. Buy extra ball bearings. there is only one in the kit, and you may lose it while washing the spinner.

  • Impressed thus far
Size: 2 Frames
I was impressed with this extractor. It was easy to assemble, and use. I learned not to crank too fast as it does shake a bit but a slow crank of the handle works best for us. The gear ratio is quick as well, in my opinion is a good thing. Only complaint is the honey nozzle is about 1" from the bottom so you do have to tilt the extractor to get all your liquid gold out. Not sure if that is standard for all but this is a good budget starter. ... show more

  • Good product
Size: 2 Frames
This was a little difficult to assemble and get the gate to not leak. Reaching down inside is difficult and just a little more clearance between the rack and side walls would be helpful both for initial assembly and cleaning. The second time I used it I screwed it down to my workshop floor for stability. I don't mind the hand cranking, but others may find it too tiring. This is a good product for someone with just a few beehives, so a good value. ... show more

  • Good product for a low price point.
Size: 2 Frames
The media could not be loaded. For the price, this product is excellent. It comes with instructions and a wrench however the instructions are vague and clearly written by someone who doesn’t speak English as a first language.... or even second language for that matter. If you’re even slightly mechanically inclined I think you’ll have no problems putting this together by yourself but don't expect help from the instructions. I got it together in about 30 minutes. Due to the way the bottom of the barrel and the walls of the barrel are constructed, the valve is not as close to the bottom as possible (there's about 1" of space between the bottom and the opening of the valve) or it would affect the integrity of the seam. It is large enough to extract small, medium, and large frames. I highly, highly recommend bolting it to the floor or having a helper to keep the whole thing steady. With that said, I’m a petite 100lb female and I extracted the frames and cleaned the system with no assistance. To drain the honey I tilted the extractor so that it could lean against the wall and then used a spatula to get the remaining honey from the barrel. Three frames took me 45 minutes start to finish, including clean up. Extract half the honey from one side of the frame, flip it around and extract all of the honey from the other side, flip them back around and get the remaining amount. I got a bucket and put a fine meshed colander over the bucket to filter out some stray chunks of wax. I rinsed it all out with cold water and it's as good as new! All in all I’m very happy with the purchase! ... show more
