I used to have a "Kryptonite" bike lock when I was in college and this one feels very much as sturdy as those old steel locks were. My use case for this is jus to lock up my bike as a deterrent for short stops at our neighboard bew pub or a short trip to the story. I have no pretense that with cutting tools, thieves could probably get past it in fairly short order but that's really probably all locks on the market today. This has the highest rating for lock picking, but only time will tell. I'm not a professional lock picker so I can only guestimate at how well it actually works. I've locked my hybrid up when going into a coffee shop/store for a refreshment and some food but the bike was always in viewing distance of me. I trust it for now and haven't heard of this lock being easily broken into so that's a plus. Overall, the lock is very heavy compared to your typical U lock, so if a heavy lock isn't going to work for your type of riding, you might want to look into other options. ... show more

Bottom Line: High Quality Lock with "Diamond" British police system protection rating. Built with 20CrMnTi steel that resists physical abuse. Long shackle, four keys and rubberized coating. This is a quality item. Lock Review Info: I've owned a few of these U-locks and while they aren't foolproof, U-locks in general are harder to destroy than they chains or cables. This particular U-lock is an excellent choice! What makes it better than most is the material used: -20CrMnTi steel is an extremely hard alloy that resists sawing, cutting and other methods of physical abuse. -The locking system which is deeply recessed in the lock. That makes it much harder to pick as typical lock picking tools need to be angled and moved around to "feel" the pins. -The super-hard steel has a rubber coating that protects my bike's paint finish as occasionally I've been known to inadvertently leave the lock on the rack while driving. -Another great feature are four keys come with the lock plus I can register the lock to get more keys if I ever loose them. Two or three keys typically come with locks but four keys is a nice bonus! -The U-section is longer than most and I can also use it to protect other equipment like locking the wheel on my trailer to the suspension system. I don't know how weatherproof it is yet but it does have a key cover and I expect I should spray some WD-40 in at times if I plan to use it outdoors. If you're looking for a solid bike lock, let me tell you about the this U-lock I've been using lately. This thing is a game changer when it comes to securing my ride. One of the best things about this lock is the soft feel to it. It’s coated in a material that ensures it won’t scratch up your bike frame. Diamond rated (the highest level) by UK based Sold Secure testing and certification authority, a typical bicycle thief would probably pass over this one and search for an easier target. The shackle is made of 20CrMnTi hardened steel with both ends locked into crossbar which require two cuts to remove the lock. The keys (four are provided) are laser cut (aka sidewinder) making the lock more difficult to pick than those using traditional keys. The auto-keyhole cover prevents or at least minimizes infiltration of water or dirt into the mechanism. An enclosed card provides a unique key code and information to order additional keys. The 3 year warranty is generous. The shackle size is quite large which should enable use with a variety of different bike racks. The downside for all this security and size - weight - almost 3.2 lbs. While not as heavy as that of some competitors, it is not light. Given its size, it's not surprising that it does not come with a hanging bracket as it would be hard to fit on all but the largest bikes. Any lock can be compromised by a determined thief, but they'll generally choose to go after less secure locks first. So, this lock should give you confidence that your bike will be there upon your return. The packaging was minimal and sufficient - not too much waste which is always a good thing. ... show more

Tbhis is a very strong and secure U lock for a bicycle. The material is very thick and it is advertised to be made of some material that resists cutting. I'm not learned when it comes to these subjects but based on the price and weight I'm confident that it will live up to it's claims. The lock is longer than my old lock which helps when securing the bike to the object. It makes bold claims when it comes to security which leads me to believe that the average thief won't bother to try to break into this lock and instead will choose another victim.
