I like everything about this lock. The build quality is great. It is a bit heavy if you carry it in a bag but if you use the holder for bike /scooter it just sits out of your way until you need it.The key goes in easily and the lock functions great. The media could not be loaded. This lock is pretty big, so if you have a bicycle like mine which doesn't have a perfectly level/parallel to the ground cross bar, or you have a "step-through" style bicycle, you will have to get creative with mounting this The mount consists of two pieces - one for each side of a round pole. On my bicycle, the cross bar is at an angle. Additionally, it is an oval-ish shape so the included mount would not work on it. Also because of the angle of the cross bar, there was not enough clearance for the entire U lock to fit in that space under the cross bar and in front of the seat post. Fortunately, the mount rotates, as does the mount's clip on the U lock itself, which allowed me to install the U lock to the side of the seat tube and under the cross bar. While riding the bike, this doesn't affect my peddling, but it does affect when I need to stop and straddle the bicycle (I'm short, and my seat is high up, so I have to dismount to reach the ground.) The mount itself is sturdy if you crank the screws down, which you really have to do to ensure it doesn't rotate in place. The same with the tiny hex bolt that holds the clip to the lock itself. The thick cable provided is a generous length and allowed for me to tether both of my kids' bicycles to my own bike and loop through my front wheel as well. The cable is stiff so don't expect to try to wrap the cable around the U lock itself and carry it all together; it won't work. I had to carry the cable in my bookbag. It has two velcro wraps to roll the cable up into a large roll. My only real complaint about this lock is that as some other reviews have pointed out, it is NOISY when riding. The U portion of the lock makes a loud and noticeable metallic rattle inside of the base when locked so whenever I hit a bump, it makes noise. I am working on figuring out a way to shim the lock with padding or tape or something else to silence it and will update my review if I figure something out. ... show more

The Via Velo Bike U-Lock with Cable is a solid choice for bike security. It feels sturdy and comes with an 8mm braided steel cable, which gives some extra flexibility for locking my bike to various racks. The U-lock itself is strong and well-built, and the 4-foot cable length is great for added reach. However, sometimes I feel the lock could be a bit thicker for extra peace of mind—though it's not a deal-breaker. You can order the replacement keys when you register and they give you a nice card you won’t lose, and a keychain thing with the information. Good instructions, and the lock is rock solid. I’ll let yall know if anything changes (I bought this due to my last one being cut. This one seems super promising) ... show more

I love this lock. My bike has been my only transportation since August of 2018, and that's how long I've had my lock. You can twist a section on the lock to cover the keyhole and prevent dirt from getting inside, but even without using that cover, the lock is just as smooth to lock and unlock as it was the day I bought it. The lock has some scrapes around the places where the U-shaped piece of metal meets the lock mechanism itself, so it has clearly done its job and prevented somebody from stealing my bike. The cable is also nice, although I don't use it often because I don't want the added weight. My only con when it comes to this bike is the mounting system. I'd give that three stars. Over time as I rode my bike on bumpy city roads and used the mounting system, it loosened up and stopped holding the lock firmly in place (allowing it to rotate while mounted), so it would either bang against the bike or my legs. Then, about a year ago, the mounting system broke off mid-ride. The section that broke was not the piece that attaches to the bike, it was the piece attached to the lock itself. This is a small con, though, and doesn't matter too much to me as I carry the lock in my backpack most of the time anyways. I would definitely recommend this lock to anyone, and I would definitely buy it again! ... show more

This is a very, very good budget lock that is just as strong as comparable products that cost much more. If you want to deter bicycle thieves this lock is a great option. The lock might not fit in the triangle area of the bicycle frame but you can mount the lock on one side (left or right) of the bicycle frame. ... show more
