  • My First Legendary Experience
I had always wanted to purchase Legendary Encounters Alien, but missed the boat on that one. As a fan of Big Trouble In Little China the movie, I purchased this game--plus, I liked the artwork on the box, and the idea of beating Lo Pan was irresistible. First and foremost, I really enjoy the game play--the scheme cards and variation of villains give this game a lot of replayability. I find that different Masterminds contribute to the speed of the game, some battles are easier, while more difficult Masterminds make you sit at the edge of your seat, while players take quick turns, hoping to beat the Mastermind in time before the Villain Deck runs out. The artwork is colorful and fun--really adding to a board game with lots of theme. This has become one of my go-to games with its fast setup/put away and quick gameplay. I have read reviews online by disappointed players who do not like the lack of a solo mode. Don't let nit picky people ruin this game for you--I play solo using two characters. This game is on the lighter side, so playing two characters is easy and just as fun as playing with others. Cons: The board game was purchased new, and arrived in perfect condition. I opened it, everything looked in great condition--no complaints there. However, a couple of months later, I took it off the shelf, and when I opened the box, the box smelled disgusting. I don't know if it's made of cheap cardboard, but there was no way I was going to bring this game out to play with friends. After removing the game mat and cards, it was obvious that only the box reeked, so I tossed it and now house the game in a plastic container. My second con is more of a warning--the game arrives completely disorganized. Upon opening the cards, I recommend separating all cards into their individual matching decks, then organize again into Villains, Henchmen, Heroes, Mediocre Heroes, Wounds, etc. This has to be done before learning the game, and you'll save yourself a headache if you separate the different decks into plastic bags. If you get past the possibility of smelly cardboard, or the hour it takes to organize the card decks straight out of the box, and you're still excited about playing, then I think you'll love the silly humorous energy of this game. Legendary Big Trouble in Little China is a keeper--perfect for lighter game nights or as a filler game. ... show more

  • If you're a fan of the movie, this won't disappoint.
Plays very well as a stand-alone deck building game. Very fun. It's not a tough call - if you love the movie, you'll like this game unless you just don't like deck-building games. If you've never heard of the movie or don't remember it well, then there are plenty of other Legendary game options to choose from. They did a good job of making the cards work together in a thematic way, yet not feel too restricted. I like the added option that on for the Jack and Wang heroes, there's an option for which cards to include. The calling out of the Chinatown-specific spaces also added a nice twist in a way that allows compatibility. Also note, if you have any of the other Legendary deck-building games, this is probably one of the most compatible with the Marvel and other ones. There are no straight up additional game mechanics unless you count the mediocre heroes, which can easily be adapted - so you can mix this one with the Marvel one. The only small note there would be some of the cards are a bit better if you're using other heroes from this set - but plenty of the Marvel Legendary expansions already do that. Note that the cards have drawn art, and NOT screen shots from the movie. So take that into account when deciding. I recommend looking at images prior to purchase if that matters to you. I feel the art is well done. ... show more

  • Big Trouble in Little Living Room
What a fantastic board game! We own the Marvel version and switch between the two. The design of the board, cards, etc are fantastic. Ease of learning of the game is basically as easy as it gets if you already own a Legendary game. For those new to the genre of deck builders, it's an easy one to learn if you read the rules and digest the information by reading it aloud to those you're playing with or to yourself, whatever floats your boat. The replay value of this board game is easily a 10/10, given there are several masterminds (main baddie) to conquer and several ways to play (scenarios and characters). So hop on the truck heading to Chinatown and kill yourself some mystical baddies, you won't regret it! ... show more

  • Another fun Legendary game
This game doesn't really reinvent the system or add any thing particularly wild mechanically to the Legendary system and it doesn't need to. This game is fun. Pick it up before it goes out of print!

  • Creased playmat
I cant believe Upper Deck designed a box too short for the playmat and then just fold it inside. The result is a creased playmat. So disappointing.

  • Big Trouble In Little China fans will love it, it’s a beautifully made game.
Fans of the cult hit movie will enjoy this whether they play it of just read the materials and reminisce about Jack Burton’s wild adventure in Chinatown. It is beautifully packaged and is a charming addition to my collection.

  • Another Great Game But Solo Player Beware!
I love the Legendary series of games and have been collecting them recently. This one plays more similar to the Marvel Legendary (pick a mastermind and a plot) than the Encounters games that follow a movie plot. I would like to make it known that this game advertises itself for 1-5 players but right in the rule book it says there's no solo rules for play because it specializes in group play. Examples given are cards that require you to discard cards off of other players decks. This was a big downer for me as a big part of my enjoyment of these games is the fun that can be had in solo play, which I do a lot of. It's also worth noting that the size of the box is not big enough to adequately hold the playmat. This means that it's folded unnaturally in the box that will, if not regularly taken out of the box, warp the material so it will not lay flat on a table. All in all, it's a great addition to the Legendary series with great art and variety in gameplay. If you enjoy the other games and like cheesey 80's movies, this is a no brainer. ... show more
