  • Awesome little radio.
Pattern: Radio
Look I have owned CB radios all my life. I have been a trucker since 1990. I purchased this radio due to its compact size. I wanted it in my new Toyota tundra I use for my work truck now. This was a little on the tookmsome work to install but that is because I am picky and I went out through my firewall to the battery and truck steel mounts for my ground and hid all my wires. The radio works beautiful, its small it fits very nicely unto my pickup and I could not be happier. Coming from me, a diehard Cobra fan. This is a very nice, well working and wonderful featured cb radio. ... show more

  • Same Experience as Other 1-Star Reviewers Until I Got a Good Antenna
Pattern: Radio
Bought this radio because it seemed perfect for my JL - I could mount it out of sight in a space-limited vehicle and it had all the features I wanted. When I first installed it with the mic extension connected, I got no transmit power and nothing but beeping out of the hand set. With it removed and the mic connected directly to the unit, I had full transmit power interrupted by periods of varying-frequency squeals (depending on how stretched out the mic cord is). I was sure that I had a well-matched antenna, but it was old, so I ponied up for a new one, and that made all the difference in the world. With the new antenna, I get great reception and full transmit power with no feedback. I'm glad I didn't give up on this little radio, as it's a super clean install in the Jeep. ... show more

  • Receives well but does not transmit. Great in concept but not in reality
Pattern: Radio
First thing I love the handheld mic. Feels good in your hand and is easy to use. The compact design is great and it looks and feels to fit in with my new jeep jlu. Now for the bad it has tons of bugs. I've been really frustrated with the unit because I wanted to mount it out of sight. I placed it under my dash and used the extension cable. Okay that worked great until I tried to use it. Every time I hooked it up and tried to transmit it would just beep. On other cb's it would have a pulse noise. So I could receive great but can't transmit. If I don't use the extension cable it works but the cord is soooo short. I have tried 3 cables and they all do it. I wish uniden actually had good customer service to help. So the fact is if you only use the unit without the extension cable it is good. I'm very disappointed 😞 ... show more

  • Excellent radio, requires some existing knowledge of radios.
Pattern: Radio
I read all the beeping and “not working” reviews and decided to give it a shot anyway. The form factor of this radio was important to me due to a lack of places to mount a larger radio. As others had mentioned, the extension that this radio comes with is NOT SHIELDED so it accepts a lot of interference from ambient signals (causing it to not transmit clearly). One of the solutions to this is as others have said is to add a ferrite choke with a loop in the wire, OR like I did, just buy a shielded cat6 extension (make to female). After I did this, I did notice that about one in 3 tries I was getting the Morse code sounding beeping that others had mentioned. It turns out that this is caused by having a high SWR or grounding issue. I had both. As soon as I corrected the grounding issue, and the high SWR by tuning the antenna, it now works perfectly and I don’t hear the beeping at all. I plan on using this in another vehicle as well. It’s a great radio, the features and form factor can’t be beat for the price. It’s a little sensitive to interference though, but if you correct those issues you won’t have any problems! Hope this is helpful for someone who was tentative like me. ... show more

  • PSA: some small quirks that are fixable
Pattern: Radio
I love these units. They are perfect for my cramped cabin and allow me to just throw it under the seat but still be able to change channels, adjust volume and squelch, etc. Super easy to use. There is a quirk with the mic cable itself. It looks like it's an Ethernet cable wired in a different way. Anyone that has worked with those will tell you they are prone to picking up noise. I have had several of these units look like they are totally blown when trying to transmit - turns out it's just the mic cable picking up too much interference. Quick fix is to throw a ferrite RF choke on the cable and do a couple loops - that fixed it for me. This is more a problem when using the extension but might be an issue without in certain scenarios. I would guess this is the primary problem most of the 1star "can't transmit" reviewers are running into. ... show more

  • An awesome CB, radio!
Pattern: Radio
One of the things I like about this radio is the size. It’s tiny. Everything is in the handset. It’s got all the features of a CB, radio and more, including scan capabilities, awesome display, and a quick ability to be able to filter out these long range guys that don’t seem to understand why we don’t allow high power on a CB… It filters in mount right away. I’m gonna order another one of these. The first one failed, but the one they sent to replace it worked great! ... show more

  • Good but could be better.
Pattern: Radio
I like Uniden and own many of their products. This little unit is a good idea for sure. Good signal reports with a Wilson Lil Wil mag mount on the roof. However, not long after install, I got the dreaded squealing issue when transmitting (and its not just through the speaker, other stations could hear the squeal through my transmission, and they were not nice about it lol.) Depending on how you stretched the cord, the squeal would come and go. Not ideal to be messing with the cable or connection while cruising down the road. The mic cord connection is set way too deep to unplug it without some sort of tool. (But I understand the effort to make it waterproof, think Jeeps with all the doors off.) The squealing did seem to not be an issue however when I attached the unit to my base station antenna and power supply. Gave it another attempt recently, and I think I might have destroyed the unit. Unit will no longer pick up any audio, not even the white noise when the squelch is turned all the way down, and not even the WX channels. Ill chock it up to user error though. Maybe testing out my setup in 115 degree heat in a hot truck with a less than ideal antenna setup was not a good idea. The unit was too hot to handle, and it had just been on in scan mode the whole time. The unit will let you know when its had enough as it will shut off every time you hit the PTT (Which I'm not sure is an intended feature.) 3 stars for the squeal issue. Back to the pile, maybe I'll give it another shot someday. ... show more
