  • Great machine for a nice cardio. My quads are on FIYYAAAHHHH and legs feel like jello!
This machine has been a nice addition to my workout machines, as well as a great change from the treadmill. The feeling of working out with this machine is akin to taking the stairs since I do feel it working on most muscles that are targeted when you're going up the stairs. This machine does get a bit of getting used to since it does take a bit of strength on your quads to press down on each step. It does get easier as each workout passes by. This also gives out a great heart rate. The size of this is nice and compact. I have this in my living room and do "exercise snacks" in which I use this for 3-5 minutes at a time and keep a record of how many 3-5 minute increments I do and total it up to at least 30 minutes each workout day. My quads are calling out for help on the 30-minute mark of using this, so I would caution to intentionally pay attention to other areas (like your hamstrings) to offset the quad soreness since sore quads can affect the performance of the knees. The bands do add a nice touch if you want to add some weight training to your step workout. However, it doesn't replace actual weights. I sometimes use this feature. By the way, the only assembly out the box is just to put the bands on the machine and that's it. This is really nice! ... show more

  • Sucky instruction pamphlet
UPDATE: The seller reached out about my comments and included a video link (https://www.amazon.com/live/video/0dfcde01907c4fb98aee1e70f6413063?ref_=dp_vse_ibvc0) for setup along with a picture of where to oil if/when needed - where I thought. They also noted they have updated their instruction manual for their next release of it, based on my feedback. I've upped my rating from 3 to 4 stars. -------------------------------- Mixed thoughts on this stepper. Yes, I can use it to step and it is compact enough to fit under my desk, so it's handy for keeping legs in motion if sitting at the computer all day or to get in some "walking up a hill" if the weather is crap. Also, since it's compact, even if not used under the desk, it has a small footprint so it won't take over the entire room. Like another reviewer, mine showed up with about 4500 steps on it - I suspect it was registered from being jostled around during the shipping process. The unit is quiet and the cushions seem to work fine. If you have any issues with balance, this may not be the unit for you, although using the resistance bands can help with that (not to support you like a hand rail, but to make sure your arms move to counteract the stepping motion). It does say it's rated for 220 pounds max, so if you're of the fluffier persuasion maybe only use while sitting. The instructions for this thing SUUUUUUUUCK. While the general usage is pretty intuitive, one needs to figure out for example where to attach the resistance bands (and presumably which hook should attach to the unit versus which hook should attach to the hand strap. The schematic just points "tension ropes" to the 2 feet, and the eye hooks are not shown. Another example is for adjusting the step height, it references "Turn the locking knob..." What locking knob? Where? There is no reference to locking knobs in the schematic. The instructions for the control panel are just prose - no schematic to reference and since you have to press the button to cycle through the numbers (or there is a scan mode to autocycle, although I haven't figured out if I need to activate that or if it's always in that mode), it's tough to tell what you're looking at. Also, the description for time says it will tell you the duration of the workout from 0-99.59S - surely it doesn't mean it will only count for a little over a minute and a half, so I assume that's a typo and should note 0-99.59M. It comes with a thin wrench, an allen wrench / phillips screwdriver combo, and a small unlabelled squeeze bottle that is full of what I have to assume is a lubricant, although there is no indication on where / when to use it. ... show more

  • No adjustment to increase resistance as your fitness improves.
There are a couple things I like about this stepper. First, you can get a pretty good workout with this thing, particularly when just starting a fitness routine. The foot pads are big enough that I feel stable on it. The frame that’s on the floor is pretty stout metal and the stepper is stable even on a carpeted floor. Unfortunately, there are also some drawbacks. First, there is no way to adjust the force required to push down the pedals. Consequently, this is appropriate for beginners, but may not have lasting benefit once the user gets fit. Next, the elastic cords for arm exercise are kind of an issue. One of the reasons I got this is because I wanted something to help with balance while using the stepper. Unfortunately, the foot pads hit part of the elastic strap when you step down. The elastic is just doubled over itself at the end then bound with a metal tab. There is a black plastic piece that fits over the whole knot thing but the plastic covers don't stay in place. They just slide down the elastic and sit right where the foot pad is going to strike. Another thing that I don't like is that when you step down on the foot pad, the travel of the pads isn't far, and you're going to hit the rubber stops beneath the step. There's darn good reason why those are there. And that's because when you step down you're going to hit those things. That’s virtually guaranteed. I haven’t used it enough to pay much attention to the display. It’s at your feet and moving so it’s kind of difficult to read easily while using the stepper. I just did a timed workout and set an alarm on my cell phone. In the final analysis, this seems to be a reasonably well made product but it lacks any way to increase the difficulty of the workout as you get more fit. Unless you hold your arms out at an awkward position, the foot pads are probably going to hit the elastic straps. I’m not sure what the competition is like in this market, but this product has some room for improvement. ... show more

  • Straight forward, but initially awkward stepper
This stepper is a little different. It works much like a teeter-totter instead of the typical front pivot steppers you may be accustomed to. This takes some getting used to and requires some effort to maintain balance. While you may be dissuaded by this information, don't be. Once you get the hang of this motion, which the bands will help with, you will find it provides a superior workout that impacts more muscle groups. It is well made and very sturdy. I have no doubt it will hold up for some time and is compact enough to store away when not in use. Overall, I am quite satisfied with this unit and would recommend trying. ... show more
