I bought this house to put on the front porch for an outdoor stray cat. It looks cute and has stayed dry in the Utah weather. Two cats have been using this house so it must be comfortable for them.

A stray cat started hanging around our neighborhood a while back. The cat will retreat if I try to approach him/her. Yet if I'm in the car, the cat will stare at me. She hangs around in storm drains on my street, is seen under cars in my driveway, in neighbors yards, on the street, etc. Seems happy being outside and doesn't want to be bothered, except does come around looking for food. So I've been putting out cat food---and when she knows I've been back in the house for a few minutes, she comes up the driveway, eats, and then leaves. The weather really started to get colder, so I decided to get this house and an insulated blanket to put inside of it. The quality of the materials is very satisfactory for what I paid. Assembly was pretty easy, and I'm not great at building stuff like this. But it went together easily----precision of where they drilled holes was solid----everything fit together well. I know the cat has gone in there for treats I've left inside the house. Not sure if she's stayed in there for any period of time, but I am pretty sure she knows it's an option if it gets too windy and cold. I put it against my house to keep it out of the wind and maybe pick up a little warmth. I put a different type of shelter on my back deck, where I have also seen this cat hanging around. So far, I've only noticed the cat around the house, not other animals in our neighborhood. I'm hoping this gives the cat a good option for shelter and so far, I believe that to be the case. I purchased this for the sweetest cat that showed up at my in-laws over the Christmas holidays. She has clearly been someone’s pet and is the sweetest little thing. She didn’t want to come indoors with us and would sleep on the rocking chair on the porch. So I bought this for her and added a bed to help ensure she is warm, comfortable and out of the elements. These seem like great little quality houses to me. I bought 2 of them because I have a large feral population around my house, but I've had them up for months now and not one cat has used them! Maybe because it's warm out or because there is only one way in and one way out. Ferals like to have at least 2 entrance/exits. I'm considering cutting another hole in the other side, but may wait until winter to see if it gets used as is. They are very sturdy and easy to set up and clean (if ever used). The plastic strips that cover the doors are very thick and heavy and a little too long, so I removed them hoping it would encourage usage, but it didn't help. I will look at replacing it with something less intimidating for a cat. ... show more

this was one of the lower priced Outdoor Cat Shelters so I wasn't expecting great quality. Just the opposite ! It is absolutely the best thing ever !. Great quality, easy to put together, very roomy. I like that it is built up off the ground for a temperature break. Looks custom built !

Bought this for an outdoor stray cat on Nov 19 it’s Jan 6 and the wood is split and the screws are rusty. I live in Florida so it’s not like the house was in snow or anything. Don’t waste your money.

About 10 years ago, Frankie showed up at our door. Looking in and wanting to come in. For years, we had a standard Rubbermaid DIY cat shelter. Until about a week ago, when we decided to build him one and came across the Trixie Small Pet House. We altered it a little by removing the door and rubber flaps and putting insulation board on the inside, but he absolutely loves it. He is a decent size cat, but we feel it is just perfect (no pun intended) for him. Hopefully, it will keep him dry and warm during the brutal NY winters! ... show more

    • Not worth the $$
I didn't expect this product to be extremely well built or weatherproof, but it was very disappointing for the price. It should cost about half, or less, for the quality that you get. The hinges were on backwards and I had to fix those, the wood is very thin and splits easily when you put it together. Not weatherproof at all, there are many holes where wind and water will get in. It will work fine for our purposes, under a covered porch with hay in for insulation, but I would NOT use it for anything that requires more than that. ... show more
