I just put this unit together and I am thrilled with it. On initial delivery I did have an issue where one piece was damaged. But I contacted customer support and after sending pictures they sent me out a replacement part. The customer service reps were very responsive in the messaging process and agreed quickly to the solution I requested. Almost everything looks good, I really want to assemble and start using it, but a crucial piece is damaged, and one shelf is poorly made. The damaged part is unfortunately the center divider. The edge is cracked and pulling away from the main part. I wouldn’t worry about it if it weren’t at the bottom, but the unit itself is already very heavy, and with more weight from books I’m concerned about the stability. The shelf is less of an issue, though a little disappointing. Otherwise it looks great, all the right pieces and hardware, the right color and accurate measurements. There are some minor nicks and scratches, nothing some furniture paint can’t mask. I like the heavy weight of it for the size, and despite being particleboard it has a great finish and will look real from across the room when assembled. There’s no way I’m returning the whole thing for a replacement, but if just the damaged part could be replaced I’d really appreciate it. ... show more

The bookshelf is very nice. It's heavy, sturdy and looks good. BUT... it arrived damaged. I tried calling the company to see about sending a replacement part. 5 calls, left 4 messages and no response. The email address does not work either. Luckily, the damaged part does not really affect the function of the bookshelf. There were also a couple small parts missing but I was able to find replacements at Lowes. I really like the bookshelf but very disappointed with the company. followup: My requests for help were sent to the manufacturer themselves, per the assembly instructions. After I posted a negative review (above) the seller immediately responded. Please note that the seller was not responsible for the damage and replied back quickly, so I have absolutely no problems with them! Highly recommend. ... show more

My husband put it together completely by himself while I was at work as a surprise for me. It can be assembled by one person and is easy to put together because of the instructions and how clearly pieces were labeled. We did screw it into the wall to stabilize it since it’s a larger shelf, but it looks great, and we’ve gotten lots of compliments. It’s very sturdy as it’s holding a large number of heavier biographies, cookbooks, and classics. We’ve purchased at least 5 bookshelves from Amazon, and this one has lived up to our expectations. ... show more

    • Cherry is purple, and take your time, but worth it!

Great unit! There were several pieces that were supposed to be labeled that were not, which made assembly take longer than it needed to, but with some careful picture scrying, and a little patience we figured it out just fine. My only real complaint is the color. I ordered the "cherry". It is very, very dark and its so red its almost purple in color. I mean, really purple! So bear that in mind. The unit itself is good quality, and I'm not worried that the shelves will bow. The shelves are particle board, but very thick and the front lip is real wood, as is the rest of the trim, and the sides. The back is in panels, that are connected together with some kind of tape stuff, but once everything is put together, and screwed and nailed, you would never know.     • Cheap Materials, Not as Described

The product materials state: "Materials: Genuine wood veneers and solid wood molding, 10 step polyurethane cherry finish" and in another section "Materials: wood and engineered wood". There is no solid wood in this product, and engineered wood usually refers to mdf, not the chipboard-like stuff this is made from. Moldings are not solid wood; they are the same veneer-covered chipboard. Even the little 1x1 supports for the top and bottom moldings are chipboard with a natural finish (to maybe somehow give you the impression that the pieces that show were stained, but the undersides were left natural??). The backing is 1-foot wide strips of veneer-covered cardboard-like material (again, not as described, "engineered wood back panel that is more durable than the cardboard on most ready to assemble bookcases"). The backing strips are held together with what appears to be clear packing tape. It's a shame the materials are so cheap because the engineering is nicely done and it was easy to put together. I'm not returning it only because it is already assembled and VERY heavy. I had to take the boxes apart in the driveway, and carry it into the house piece-by-piece, and not about to repeat the process in reverse. ... show more

Center vertical board was split and splintered. I sanded it and re-stained it and it still looked broken. Something to consider. As for me, I accept the fact that I cannot have anything nice.
