While these products are as described in terms of appearance, you would think based off the positive reviews and the fact that it is an ambiance piece that it would operate silently, or at least reasonably quietly. This is in fact not the case. After RMA'ing one with the manufacturer in hopes it was simply defective, the replacement was equally as loud. The customer service rep assured me it had been tested prior to shipping. While Touchestone's customer service was pleasant and tried to do the right thing, it does not change the fact that the fireplace is as loud as a refrigerator, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the pretty flames and relaxing atmosphere it is supposed to create. Worked well for a little over a year at which point it CAUGHT ON FIRE! It was installed properly and all wiring was correct. Even had it on a surge protector.

Installing a new outlet to hide the power cord. I would recommend this product to others. It's a winner for the price. Update: unit quit working. Called Touchstone customer service. Received a voicemail, left a message to call me concerning issue. No call back. I would say that my pleasure with this unit is gone based on completely unsatisfactory customer service. ... show more

This item is well made, easy to install and looks great when it’s on or off. Now for the drawbacks...If you intend to put this under your tv, you better leave a good amount of space in between. The heat vents from the top and when on high, it made our tv extremely hot. We had to move the tv up quite a bit. 2nd drawback...The remote has two temperature settings and the remote doesn’t indicate what it’s on so you have no way of knowing unless you turn it off and start over or get up, go across the room and check the vent. All and all though, this fireplace has been a warm addition to our living room. I will enjoy it year around. UPDATE: The unit started turning itself off. I realize that there can sometimes be issues with electronics, so I reached out to both the manufacturer and Amazon. Both provided amazing customer service so my new fireplace is on its way and I intend to by another shortly. ... show more

Very sleek and modern. Delivered on time and undamaged. It has a aggressive hum when the heater is on. I contacted the manufacturer and am waiting there response. The glass front is large and the documentation doesn't clarify if it is safety glass. It would be bad if it shattered and isn't safety glass. Update I contacted the supplier via email to question the hum. They responded in less than 24 hours. After confirming it was properly installed, I received a replacement unit within 96 hours. The new unit is installed and hum free. The old unit was package per instructions in the replacement unit container and being returned via UPS. Incredible customer service. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. After many long hour on the web searching for the perfect fire place within my budget, I decided to get the Tonchstone 80001. I'm using it mainly as a decor and not so much for the heat since I have central heating. The product was well packaged and nothing was missing. During the installation I notice that the mounting bracket is very thin and definitely needs to be a bit stronger, heavier metal gauge would have been nice. You can easily bend the bracket if you're not careful. I have not use the heat feature yet but did test out the ambience flame feature and I have to say it looks pretty darn real. The flames can be seen even if you have lots of ambience light. I got a lot of complements on it already. I tried out both the crystal and the log but settled with the log because it looks amazing and the glow of the log is very real. The timer setting is very helpful as well. I did noticed a slight hum as mentioned by other reviewers but I did use a couple of pieces of rubber shimmers on the back that rest against the wall and it significantly reduce the humming noise. I think the manufacture should use more damping to reduce the motor noise internally so it does not radiate onto the chassis. Overall, I give it a 4 Star due to the flimsy mounting bracket and a bit of humming noise that I have to DIY myself in order to reduce the noise. Almost a 5 star if they can fix these 2 issues. ... show more

Received the fireplace in time and no problems. The unit looks fantastic. For an added touch I put LED tape light around the back to give it an even cooler look. I get lots of compliments on it. Overall it's a great fireplace for the money
