  • Good tools
Did what is supposed to do!

  • Works great
Had a weird size bathtub drain. The drain casting was flawed leaving a slight lip inside it. This wouldn’t allow me to use most other tools. The ones I could use just ended up breaking. The drain has been on since 1973. Had to lightly tap this tool in with a hammer. It took two people pushing/pulling on the tool but I was able to get the drain out. The tool did not break and you can barely see any wear marks on it. I was extremely pleased with it and have to rate it 5 stars. It worked where all others failed. Well worth the money. ... show more

  • Tub drain extractor didn't work for me today.
Today, I tried the Topec 1.5'' Tub Drain Extractor, (comes w/ 8PCS Pipe Nipple Extractor Set), for the 1st time, to try to remove my whirlpool drain that I put in maybe 10 years ago. I was unable to remove it w/ the extractor (the biggest piece), and I re-read the instructions and tried hammering the extractor, first w/ a framing hammer, then a sledgehammer, into my drain 3 times, but whenever I'd turn it w/ the included 1" socket, it would just spin. I have never used an extractor before, so it's POSSIBLE I gave up too soon. However, I was concerned that if I hit it any harder, (what I thought it needed to work), I may break my fiberglass whirlpool! I knew my fiberglass whirlpool had some give to it, that it also had at least one rubber washer, and that my drain pipe was plastic and not very secure, so I concluded when I tried to hammer the extractor in, the drain was moving enough to keep the extractor from getting deep enough in it to bite. I also tried a hammer and a chisel, for a while. Then I did some research, and my assumption that Topec had invented the tool was wrong. But in that research, I also found out about a tool called a "tub drain wrench", and at the time, I thought it was the safer method. I went to the hardware store a 2nd time, got a tub drain wrench for $11, and successfully got my corroded drain out. It still wasn't easy, as all the chisel blows had bent and distorted the 4 holes that the tub drain wrench fits in. After removing my drain, I then installed a new one, and fought w/ its poor alignment, before I went back to the hardware store and bought another rubber washer and a 3rd time to get a new drain pipe. That leaked whatever I did, so I had to put a rubber sleeve w/ 2 clamps to connect the drain waste pipe w/ the rest of the drain. It took me all day, and now that I look back at the experience, it's possible I gave up on the extractor too soon, and should've kept turning it w/ a ratchet - maybe it would've then grabbed? But my faith in the extractor was bad when the socket it came w/ wouldn't fit well on the tool it was made for, (both in the set). And, no, my hammer blows didn't make any indention on the extractor's face - I thought of that and ran my finger over the edges to confirm it was just a poorly made socket or extractor piece. So, I'm giving this extractor 3 stars - as it will probably work on a drain that can be hammered in hard, just not mine, due to the conditions I stated. ... show more

  • Useful
It is nice to have the right tool at the right time even if it is specialized and not used often. Such is the case with this tub drain extractor. A normal DIYer will extract how many tub drains in his or her life? Zero? One? On the other hand, how much more difficult is it to do if you do not have the right tool? I am glad I have this tool for those tough but rare jobs. ... show more

  • A great value for any size in the future.
I had to reach down into a narrow trap in my pool deck using a 24 inch extension and extract an old vacuum hose fitting. Got the old fitting out in seconds. Prior to getting this tool, I tried a great many things and nothing worked. This tool is THE ONE.
