  • Solid rack, but DO NOT USE WITH CHILD SEATS
Color: Standard Size: Disc Style: No Spring
I used this rack with a Thule Yepp Nexxt Maxi on my Specializedd Rockhopper with disc brakes to commute with my 30lb son for about a year and half with good results until the bolt that holds the mount to the frame snap unexpectedly while my son was on it! Fortunately the rest of the rack was able to maintain itself until I was able to come to a stop. I would think that a 30lb child with a 5lb car seat would have been well under the stated limit of 55lbs, but unfortunately that was not the case. While trying to replace the bolt by extracting what was left, the threads were stripped, which now makes any sort of frame-mounted rack unusable. I reached out to Topeak who responded by saying that this rack was not designed for use with child carriers and therefore should not be used as such (as stated in the manual), and this sort of damage was not covered under warranty. I wish that the advertisement has specifically stated that before I made the purchase. Perhaps it is a fault of Thule for advertising their seats as usable with "sturdy rear racks." Nevertheless, as with anything involving your children, be particularly careful! ... show more

  • Too small for 29er
Color: Standard Size: Disc Style: No Spring
I have a Topeak rack installed on 5 bikes because I have a Topeak MTX bag that I always use when I am riding one of them. The rack is strong. It is also convenient to use with the ToPeak MTX bag that slides in and snaps in. However, I have three complaints. One, it is barely tall enough for a 29er (about 1/2 inch clearance above the back wheel). If the mounting straps are not bent just right, it touches the back wheel. Two, I paid $50 for this rack when a comparable good quality rack from other manufacturers costs about $30. I buy it because I am locked into this brand and its design for holding the Topeak MTX bag securely and conveniently. However, I am tempted to buy another brand next time and modify the design to use with the bag. Three, they don't give you enough screws to mount the rack on any bike. If they are going to charge $50, the least that they could do is spend a few pennies and provide everything that is needed to mount the rack properly. ... show more

Great rack, but I deducted one star because the front mounting straps are chrome. My bike is black and the rack is black. The chrome straps really clashed. I had to paint the straps black. Some people probably would never notice something like that, but I did.

  • If it fits, it sits...under the spring clamp!
Color: Standard Size: Disc Style: With Spring
This rack is fantastic and I'm surprised that the manufacturer's write-up and photos don't do the product justice. I hope this review and the photos I posted help raise more awareness to some great features. I installed it on my Marin Lombard with zero issues. There's plenty of clearance for the disc brakes and wheel circumference. The BEST thing about this rack is the spring feature. I recommend that you look at the photos to truly understand how it works. You can lift up the spring bars and "clamp" items between the bars and the main platform of the rack. A hat, a windbreaker, a small box...whatever. If it fits, it sits - no bungees required! Of course the rack is compatible with all of the Topeak "MTX" products (I got the Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DXP Bicycle Trunk Bag with Rigid Molded Panels), but if you don't need an entire trunk bag, this rack will hold the smaller, loose items just fine without it. All hardware required for mounting to your bike is included: Bolts, washers, lock nuts and a couple of brackets for different versions of brake lights or reflectors. This rack is only a couple bucks more expensive than the non-spring version but waaaaay more functional and worth it! ... show more

  • Love these bike racks
Color: Black Size: Non-disc Style: No Spring
This bike rack system is second to none! I first purchased one of these about four years ago for my Trek Mountain bike and it still serves me very well. The trunk bags for it slide on securely and with ease. In addition there are several bags/ carriers you can use with this rack which makes it extremely versitile. During the summers I was transporting my bike back and forth to camp so I decided to instead leave my mountain bike at camp and get a second bike for home where I mainly do paved road riding so I just purchased a Trek Hybrid. I had to also get a Explorer Rack for this bike so I ordered this one. It does work great but I ended up having to purchases additional longer mounting arms because the ones that came with the rack were too short for the frame. This is where the rack lost a star with me. I don't feel I should have had to spend a additional 12.00 to be able to use my rack. Longer arms should be an option when ordering the rack. ... show more

  • Easy to install and sturdy.
Color: Standard Size: Disc Style: No Spring
Installation is great. The included hardware is high quality and threaded into my bike frame like butter. The use of nylon insert lock nuts for the rack's own bolting up is a nice touch. I use this with a Topeak bag, and the mounting system is really nice. The fold out panniers also have elastic straps that easily hook on to the well-thought-out attachment points near the axle. On my frame (a 58 cm Trek Checkpoint ALR), I had to use the shortest setting for the bars. This leaves a lot of extra material that's sticking out. It's not incredibly noticeable and it's far enough away from the tire that I'm not too concerned, but I might come back with a hacksaw and cut off the ~6" of extra material someday. By the way, there is a clear warning of the weight limit and also not to use this with a child seat. Pretty absurd that people need to be told this kind of stuff... it's made for your groceries, not the small human you're responsible for. Also, you can clearly see in the pictures that there are chrome mounting bars that aren't black. ... show more

Color: Black Size: Non-disc Style: No Spring
I installed this rack on my 1978 Peugeot UO9. The eyelets at the rear wheel were not threaded and have a diameter of 5/16. I purchased 5/16 X 3/16 in bushings to accommodate the 5 mm mounting screws. I used 5mm X 20mm stainless steel pan head screw with bushings and on either side of the eyelet I used 5mm fender washers behind the pan head and between the rack and eyelet and nylock nuts. I did not have threaded seat stay mounts for a rack on the bike either. At the seat stay I used 1/2 inch rubber insulated P-Clamps to mount the rack arms to. The rack is very solid and I did not have to modify my bike or the rack to mount the rack to my bike. I added a MTX Bag to the rack. ... show more
