  • Very good idea and very well implemented.
Size: Right Handed
I got this thing for my acoustic guitar and It’s very well made and ingenious. Practically, because the pickups on an acoustic electric guitar pick up the vibrations of the metal cored strings, and do not pick up the vibrations of the wood; these guys created something that takes the signal from the pickups and feeds it back into the guitar's own body and the wood resonates in complement to the original sound. Simple but Mind blowing. I used reverb and chorus but it has other settings as well. The manual goes in depth with all its functions and installation but I didn't read it so I am not sure I am getting the most out of it but, whatever I am getting out of it is nothing short of amazing. The sound if my guitar is now fuller, almost like there are string instruments or ambient sounds coming from my guitar itself that match my chords/notes. I am not a good guitar player but, my playing sounds better. It’s like when you sing without reverb and then you add reverb. It smoothes things down and, in my opinion, makes it sound better. I found myself doing more vibratos because it sounds so good with reverb. I really like it and highly recommend it. Now, I did not think there was a lefty and righty unit (my mistake) so I bought the wrong one and returned it: don’t be like me. Installation is pretty easy too. The manual tells you how to do it but what i did was basically put the unit in the back of my guitar and tried different locations until it sounded best (to me). Then you lower the tension in the strings, stick your hand in the guitar and place the x brave in: thats it. Retune your guitar and you are good to go. Buy it: you wont regret it. ... show more

  • Amazing
Size: Right Handed
I've had my Tonewood for two months, and I can't play my acoustic without it now. It completely changes the guitar, and breathes so much life into everything I play. I play exclusively fingerstyle, so I can't speak much for picking, but I'm sure it still sounds phenomenal. Even the most simple stuff sounds amazing with the reverb on. I've wanted one for years, and I'm so glad I got mine. I can't recommend this enough. The only complaint I have is that it can be a little tricky to change the batteries. I had to change the batteries pretty quickly, but that's just because I use it so much! The first set of batteries lasted a few weeks, the second set has lasted a bit longer. If you're on the fence about getting this, just do it, you won't regret it. ... show more

  • Room for improvement, but it's still a solid home run!
Size: Right Handed
I've been playing acoustic and electric for over 30 years in just about any live or studio setting & context I can think of. Cons: -You can definitely tell the behavior changes as the battery gradually wears down, mostly in the TouchWah setting. (You have to retweak to get that sweet spot as the battery wears down on TouchWah. )Reverb settings still work well as the battery gets closer to death. -Installing the X-Brace is hard for guys with big hands and arms. It's doable, just will have to be methodical installing it. -It did not come with a manual, and the one online at twamps.com is very outdated. They should include a printed one. -It does clip quite easily if your guitar vibrates a lot. Most guitars with a matte finish or have been played for many years and are broken-in may experience more clipping. (That's treatable with lower volume and gain settings though) Note: No, this probably isn't loud enough for real busking. It's barely loud enough if other people in the room are talking loudly. Also there is a master gain setting. Figure that out and set the master gain in your patches early on to save you a lot of frustration. Battery life from regular alkalines (3x AA) has been between 4-5 hours. Pros: An AMAZING creative tool. I love it. I have been waiting years to own one and it's fantastic. I have been able to get lost playing for hours. I have also tried it through my acoustic amp and WOW this thing sounds absolutely huge. It's inspiring. The magnets work very well. I have been attaching/detaching it about twice a day for 2 weeks and it hasn't been an issue so far. The guitar's finish seems to be fine. I will definitely be performing with it in the near future, doing lots of solo gigs and incorporating it with my regular band gigs occasionally. It's one of the few guitar toys out there that does not get boring. The forte's are definitely in the reverbs, but they have done their best to make other settings useful. You will not get "Where The Streets Have No Name" delay without an external amp, but the delay setting is still very useful and musical. The Leslie setting is really good, but again, requires a little tweaking here and there to maximize the effect as the battery starts to wear down. Still, that setting is musical, fun, and is a pleasant break from the other sounds. The Overdrive isn't worth even mentioning. The TouchWah setting is a blast and you can get a phenomenal attack and quack out of it. Final thoughts: It clips a little easily, and that's tough when using wood as an amplifier so we can't discredit ToneWood too much here. Also I ordered some good rechargeables, and hopefully they stay in the "above 4 volts" zone a little longer and more consistently before fading out. If this were stolen, I would absolutely get a replacement ordered up right away and would probably be having fits until it arrived, it's that good. I'm so glad someone was smart enough to come up with this because I can have a full multi-hour practice and creative session without ever leaving my couch. Also, all my friends and family are blown away by how cool this thing is! No regrets on the purchase. ... show more

  • Pretty good - tips for use
Size: Right Handed
Added this to a Klos carbon fiber travel hybrid guitar. Here are some tips: 1. Turn back the gain, turn up the volume. 2. If it stops amplifying, change the 9v battery inside your acoustic/electric guitar. 3. Keep both 9v and AA batteries on hand. It does use a lot of battery power. 4. Make sure that the little amplifier contact grommet (the rubber donut on the back of the amp) is flat against the back of the guitar. 5. Try adjusting your guitar's pickup volume back to about 5 or 6, not full volume. There's a sweet spot when you do all of these adjustments and the tone is very nice. Play around with it. Remember, when you find your setting, you can "lock" it into place. It's pretty nice. A bit too expensive, though. 3 stars for that. UPDATE 9/22/2023 - No, it's worse than all that. The little device lost volume and began to buzz no matter how diligently I worked to place it correctly. It made me feel like a kid with a broken toy. Frustrated and irritated. Not worth the money or the effort. I don't recommend this device. I am returning it on Monday. I'll update when the refund has been issued, but I suggest you save your money and use a real amp if you're playing an acoustic/electric guitar. ... show more
