Description

Update - New, smaller, case designs! Available NOW! Aguilar pedals have been made smaller by reducing the “lip” around the edges of the pedal. By reducing this lip, you can now use ANY right angle plugs regardless of barrel size! And with a flat surface on the bottom of the pedal, mounting to a pedal board is easier than before! This preamp/direct box is so strong and powerful it could only be called the -InchTone Hammer-Inch! Based on the respected OBP-3 preamp, the Tone Hammer features fully sweepable midrange frequencies in addition to bass and treble controls. With the Tone Hammer's pristine D.I. you are set for the studio or the stage. To give this tone shaping unit the ultimate flexibility, Aguilar is introducing their proprietary Adaptive Gain Shaping circuitry (AGS). AGS allows the player to kick in an additional gain structure and EQ with the -Inchstomp-Inch of a button. You can now go from modern slap sounds to vintage or overdriven. 18 volt operation gives the Tone Hammer plenty of headroom to reproduce the most dynamic playing style. Separate -InchGain-Inch and -InchMaster-Inch controls allow you to dial in just the right gain structure for any instrument. The Tone Hammer is the essential preamp/direct box for every bassist's tool box.

  • Awesome pedal for bass
Changed out my Sansamp to this and I’m glad I did

  • Great Preamp/DI
This is one of those products that just plain works, all the time! I have some great sounding basses but somehow they all sound just a little clearer and puncher through the Tone Hammer. I'd rate the sound at 10 stars if I could but I do have 2 issues that I think could be improved on. The AGS is a great sounding distortion but kicking it on makes the signal much louder, there's no way I can use it as an added effect, it either has to be on or off the entire time. I really wish there was an output level control to be able to match levels with the clean signal. The other issue I have is small but still ... the face plate overhangs the body of the pedal by a little bit on the rear and (especially) the front of the pedal, I can't see any benefit to this and it makes an already large pedal just a bit larger still on a pedalboard. I know that Aguilar has corrected this on some of their other pedals, I'm hoping they'll do the same on the Tone Hammer but it'll come too late for me. Nevertheless, this is a must-have pedal for me. I use it in front of my Epifani amp on my live rig and direct to the mixer on my church gig. It's also really handy when there's a rented backline or when I'm using someone else's rig, I can always have the control I need over my sound regardless of what amp I'm using. ... show more

  • Great Pre Amp DI
Just started using this yesterday Nice warm sound in my opinion. I plan on using this with any Amp I encounter on the road through the effects loop and bypassing the Amp X's Preamp. I tried it at a rehearsal today with a amp with out a effects loop with just a taste of gain and it gave the amp and extra warmth. Also sounds great through my Apogee Duet and Mackie Monitors. I'll get a chance to use in a large venue this weekend cant wait. I'm using it with a Sadowsky 24- 5 NYC. Update Used the Tone Hammer at a large venue and it worked great. I used it through the effects loop of the house amp a Ampeg SVT bypassing the Ampeg preamp. I had a few effect pedals before the Tone Hammer and I should have put them after. Even with the effects bypassed the sound of the Tone Hammer is affected. I would normally put effects after the Tone Hammer if I were to run it to a amps input. Update #2 After doing a 3 nights at a club this weekend I used the Tone Hammer plugging it in my small combo amps input and setting the amps EQ flat. It really sounded great. ... show more

  • great pedal for pedal lovers
I sold it, I wasn't so happy with the two battery power system and didn't have the power supply so it was a bit of a problem for me more than a solution. also I fixed my bass pickups so I no longer needed the preamp. Loved the auto compressor embedded, but it would have been nice to be able to tune it. 4 stars in versatility for this. All in all its an Aguilar and it feels like one. I hate pedals so I was happy to sell it. ... show more

  • Doesn’t add much
So I have a bass with an active preamp as well as non active. With the active bass there is absolutely no sound difference with the pedal on or off. The ags is useless, you almost have to adjust your volume in order for ags to not blow your head off. This was my second preamp pedal that I tried and ultimately I settled on a EBS Microbass 3 and right away I was sold. Sounds amazing is dead silent, has usable adjustments as well as different types of drive that may actually be useful. Overall, the Aguilar just falls short. ... show more

  • I Don’t See Myself Replacing This Anytime Soon
This is THE bass di box! I’ve used a sans amp before and it kills your mid tone. This thing has all the control you need to make sure that doesn’t happen! Don’t get me started on the ags! Keep it on and set it subtle... wow does it go a long way! Not to mention the insane headroom you get with this! I love it and I don’t see myself replacing it anytime soon! ... show more

Absolutely fantastic sound. I'm running it through the FX return on my GK 1001-RBII and the tone it gives me is unbelieveable. Used it to record recently (mic'd the cab) and the tone for the recording was 100% perfect. My favorite hardware in my arsenal right now for sure.
