  • Wonderful addition
This is my fourth game, I like the twists, the pieces are incredible. I love the little detail trains. Instantly went to the top of my favorite Ticket to Ride games.

  • Old West side better then France
I am writing this review with the assumption you already own Ticket to Ride the base game (which you will need to play this expansion). I own 45 board games (at the writing of this review) and this is one of 3 ticket to rides in our collection. Yes...I have a board game addiction. We enjoy the Old West side of the board more so then France. France: The board is beautiful and it is fun to learn your France geography. The unique part of this game is all the train track routes are blank and you have to select what color of track to lay. It sounds interesting but...it becomes tedious. You start by thinking "great, I can choose the color of the track I want for my sections". Well...after a while you are done with your track sections for your routes and are just randomly selecting colors to throw around. Long story short....it gets annoying. It is our least favorite Ticket to Ride. Old West: This one is a fun and it plays up to 6!!! This one involves train stations and you have to start laying your train sections from your starting station and they have to continue to connect from there. So long story short....you just cannot buy a section that you may be blocked out of if you have not already made your way there with your trains. A little bit more strategy then the base game. Pick your starting station location wisely. There is also a fun little alien that is put in Roswell to be captured for 10 points. A good addition to the Ticket to Ride line up! ... show more

  • 5 stars for Old West, 4 stars for France
*Old West -- absolutely 5 stars, instantly one of our favorite TTR maps.* Old West is a little different from typical TTR, in a couple of ways. It allows 6 individuals to play; you can't play unconnected trains; and you can get points from trains played by other players. You claim a "city center" at the beginning of the game, and you play from there. Once you've built your first route, you can split off in whatever direction you like... but any route you claim has to be connected to a previous route. This makes reaching your destination cities a bit stressful, especially if one of your opponents seems to be heading to the same area on the map. The "city centers" are not only your starting point, they also signify "ownership" of a city. If anyone plays a route into that city, *you* get the points. Billy played a 4-space route into your city center? That's 7 points for you, and zero points for Billy. We really like this map because it forces interaction between players, and it adds quite a bit of drama to the game, and of course because it can be played with 6 people (the only map that allows for 6 individual players). *France -- a solid addition to TTR, and definitely interesting... but the "building" phase gets old.* France adds a brand-new element to TTR: track-building. Most of the routes on the board have no color. The color is assigned by the players. Every time you draw train cards, you have to "build" track somewhere on the board. You choose the color and the length, from a limited selection of track pieces. There's only one 4-space and 5-space track piece for each color, but multiple 2-space and 3-space track pieces. This track-building element is exciting at first, and it can add some player interaction because anyone can play on track, once it's built. If you build a 3-space orange route, and your opponent has 3 orange train cards... they can claim that route before you do. However, we found that as the game gets down to about 10 trains left, the track-building gets pretty old. At that point, you really just want to grab the train cards you need to complete your trips before someone ends the game. Being forced to build track when you don't want to is a bit annoying. (Also, organizing the track pieces adds time to the game setup). We still enjoy France, but we've run into "track-building fatigue" every time we play. Because of that, it doesn't get played too often. *** Overall, this is a 5-star expansion, despite our issues with France's track-building. Old West is an amazing addition to any Ticket to Ride library. Keep in mind this is an expansion and you will need your own train cards and train pieces, from TTR USA or TTR Europe. ... show more

  • Fun expansion to Ticket to Ride games
We had a lot of fun playing this game. Ticket to Ride France is completely different than any other of the Ticket to Ride games. You have to build a route before claiming it with trains. Old West side you claim a route and then connect to your other routes. Both sides were fun!

  • Another good Ticket to ride varient.
You get two games in one box here. Oddly we have never played the France map but the wild west map is great. A must have for ticket to ride fans. My 11 year old loves this one. Rated higher than USA and Europe (actually our highest rated out of the 4 total we own).

  • Fun and easy to learn expansion.
This is an expansion, not a full game, so be aware. Beginners need to learn basic Ticket to Ride mechanics. I love the West. France allows you to pick track colors. Great game expansion.
