  • Excellent protection, but be aware of its size and bulk.
Color: Black Size: One Size
I flew my bike with it twice and it arrived with no damage. The bag is excellent, and can fit not just your bike but clothes, helmet, protection gear. It is excellent, but you need to consider several things when considering this bag vs soft bags. I am not taking any stars off for its drawbacks, just make sure it will work for you, when it does its perfect. 1) bike fit: I have a large trail mountain bike (pivot switchblade 2020 for size reference) and I had to take off the derailleur off and zip tie it to the frame, else the bike was too long to fit. An xl or longer bike may not fit so measure to be sure. 2) weight - bike and bag will weigh over 50lbs, unless your bike is under 30 lbs with pedals. However if you keep it under 100lbs it's going to be fine for most US domestic airlines, and southwest for example charges 75 dollars bike fee regardless of weight. Some soft bags weigh less but your airline costs will still be 75 bucks. You can load up more things in there like clothes, helmets etc I had mine weighing north of 75lbs and it was fine 3) size is quite large you cannot fit it in an suv standing up, it will need to lay on its side, and most 2 row suvs will need to drop both back seats to fit it. That means only driver and one passenger can ride in the suv, and if there are more in your party, get an additional vehicle. You cannot fit it in a sedan. Also, even when the bag is empty, when you arrive at your destination and take the bike out, it still takes a lot of space, so transportation from the airport will also be a challenge. I couple not fid the empty bag in a midsized suv (huyndai Santa fe) without dropping both back seats. 4) storing the bag at home: you need to have a garage with space for it. Soft bags can fold and be store in a closet, this one is just big and you will need to find a spot for it. 5) transporting in the airport - it's pretty easy since it has wheel, however, loading and unloading from vehicles does require two people in most cases. It has handles on back, front and top. 6) you only need to take off wheels and handle bar, and you need to buy some velco ties and maybe some foam to pad things up and secure the handle bar to the side of the bike frame. I do not use the full stand that came with it, but the locking bar that holds the bike can be placed on the ground and if you are careful it will not tip over. 7) the case does not support boost forks without and adapter! If your fork is 110mm,then you need an adapter in order to secure the mount so it won't move left and right. It does support various axle diameters but the width adapter is not included. 8) this case can pair perfectly with sea suckers bike carrier - the sea sucker can fit in the case, you can velcro tie it to the bike carrier locking assembly and it fits in the bag easily. When you arrive to your destination you can transport your bike on the roof of any car no extra bike rack needed. In summary, you can fit a lot more than the bike in this case, but transporting the case and storing it needs some planning. ... show more

  • Looks very nice but too heavy and bulky
Color: Black Size: One Size
This review is for this case that I bought from Amazon and then returned without using, so it is my observations based on that only. I fly with my TT bike to Ironman events. Been using a Pika Packworks bag without any problems at all although I am always spending my flight worrying about how my bike is being handled. So this year I bought this hard case from Amazon expecting to be able to move it quickly through the airport and not have to spend my flight time concerned if my bike was safe and secure. When it was delivered, the box has a large label on it stating 'Team Lift'. Hmm, not a good start. When lifting it out of its cardboard box I started to see why. This case is HUGE. Pro's - Its Thule - they have always made excellent products - It looks very cool - has a very flash texture to the finished surface - Smart buckle system protected by a velcro strap - Once the buckles are open, easy to open/close the case - Handles in the right places Cons - Very bulky - Heavy - It looks very cool - i.e. it clearly must contain a very valuable bike... - Difficult to move around unless it is on its wheels (such as moving to/from the garage/basement/car trunk either empty or loaded with a bike) - Made of ABS. I am not sure that ABS is the most impact resistant plastic around for such a large item (compared to say, Polycarbonate) - Buckle system is complex - you can figure it out but will the TSA agent be able to do the same under time pressure? I felt that it would get knocked around a lot both by me when moving it and also by baggage handlers due to its large bulk and weight. I didn't have the confidence it would be able to protect my bike and, to be able to survive itself. Maybe in a few years after the design (and choice of ABS plastic) has been proven I might have been more confident, but its new and I cannot find any real user reviews yet on the web. So I returned it and will go back to my (proven and reliable) Pika Packworks soft case. Sorry Thule. ... show more

  • Best features: - Handles tall bikes
Color: Black Size: One Size
I just took this case on our first trip - a 2-stop, 2-plane trip cross country. The case worked flawlessly. I was initially worried because the case clearly exceeded the dimension limits of Southwest Airlines (80", the case was >100", W+D+H). But they allowed it without saying a word. FYI, Southwest charges $75, American charges $150. Best features: - Handles tall bikes: I have a 61 frame with an integrated seat post which wouldn't fit in other cases. This case handles it, even with the seat still attached. - Integrated bike stand - this works twofold: first, it secures the bike inside the case itself, keeping it in the same position, and away from the sides; second, when you get where you are going and need to put your bike back together, it acts as a work stand. We actually used it for that purpose on all 5 bikes that were on this trip. - Wheel bags: they keep the wheels protected, while at the same time protecting the bike. A nice touch is the little pockets inside for your wheel skewers - love it! - Wheels: allow this to be rolled lengthwise, rather than width-wise, like most cases. This makes moving about in the airport much easier. Nags: - Though they survived this trip fine, I'm a little worried about the wheels - they seem exposed and therefore vulnerable to damage. Time will tell here. - The lock-down latches are a bit recalcitrant to engage. I don't worry about this so much for myself, but the TSA opened the box on both ends of this trip, and I worry about some impatient TSA agent not engaging them properly. Recommendation: get a TSA approved lock (which I did) to make sure the top stays closed. - This thing is huge, and can be unwieldy to move when not rolling on its wheels. In the grand scheme of things, these are minor complaints. This was a worthy investment for my very expensive bike, and would highly recommend it. ... show more
