Description

An in-world book from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Wakanda Files—compiled by request of Shuri (Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War) as part of her quest to improve the future for all people—is a collection of papers, articles, blueprints, and notes amassed throughout history by Wakanda’s War Dogs. In a nod to Wakandan technology, the pages of this deluxe edition have a printed layer of UV ink with content that is visible only under the accompanying Kimoyo bead–shaped UV light. Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Wakanda has been on the forefront of what is technologically possible. Their ability to stay ahead of the rest of the world is second only to their ability to keep themselves hidden. As the architect behind many of Wakanda’s great advancements, Shuri is constantly seeking ways to improve what has come before. To aid in her search, she researches the past for context, reference, and inspiration by compiling The Wakanda Files. Organized into areas of study, including human enhancement, transportation, weapons, artificial intelligence, and more, The Wakanda Files trace the world’s technological achievements from the era of Howard Stark and early Hydra studies to modern discoveries in quantum tunneling and nanotechnology, weaving together the stories, personalities, and technology that are the fabric of the MCU. • Excellent book for Marvel Fans, but needs new batteries for the UV Light
I am going to write about the physical properties of the book and included UV light since the contents have been reviewed by others. The UV Light: The small UV Light decoder is good enough for the job but it has limitations. The included batteries are now 4 years old and because they are unbranded LR41 alkaline batteries they are very close to the point that they will start leaking chemicals through their seals. On the book I received yesterday from Amazon, the batteries have self discharged down to 1.39 volts and should have been 1.52 volts if they were new. The book was produced in 2021 but the batteries were not and this is one of the reasons the included UV Light is not as bright as it could be. You can buy proper name brand replacement batteries as size AG3 which is a higher quality battery that is not as prone to leaking as the cheaper LR41 batteries but uses different battery chemistry that does not leak and also lasts longer in use. The batteries are direct replacements for each other but the AG3 batteries will last longer in use and are slightly more expensive coming from a name brand like Maxell, Energizer, or Duracell. The other reason the UV Light is not as bright as it could be is that it is intended for use by children, and at full brightness the LED light source could potentially damage the eyes of children if they stare directly into the light source constantly for extended periods. It is designed to limit exposure by design and is not as bright as it could be. The UV reactive printing is best viewed under reduced ambient light because it is not able to glow brightly enough to be seen in daylight outdoors or indoors at normal indoor lighting levels. The Book: The book is a fine example of old world bookbinding that is still practiced in most parts of the world except in America. Most Hard Cover books printed in North America have what the industry calls the "Perfect Binding'. That describes the poor quality of construction that is perfect for the publishers because it is cheap and easy to produce, but it is seriously lacking in the quality expected of a hard cover book but it cannot hold up to repeated readings because the pages are individual cut sheets of paper held in place by a thick layer of glue at the spine like a cheap paperback book. This results in a book that will not lay flat when opened and set down on a table, and if used with small children who will try to force the pages to lay flat, the pages will split along the layer of glue holding them in place and the pages will fall out along the line where the split in the glue backing forms. If you look at the book bindings of older quality books or newer hard covers made in China or Asia you will find the pages are folded over in the center and then sewn into small booklets with around 16, 24, or 32 pages, which are then attached by stitching to additional booklets called "signatures" until they have enough pages to assemble the book. This type of binding is referred to as being "Smyth Sewn" and most hard cover books intended to survive repeated use like library books are constructed that way because the binding is expected to flex and lay flat when the book is opened. I am a schoolteacher and that type of binding that is intended for heavy duty use is important to me and the kids in my classroom because I will not spend my money buying a book that starts falling apart after only a year of use and the kids need a book that allows itself to be opened and looked at instead of having a glue backed binding that snaps shut and loses where the reader was looking the instant they forget to hold the pages open. I have a large number of handicapped kids in my room and this is a problem not only for the kids in the room, but also for many of the older seniors who like to come and assist my younger disabled kids. I am supplying my special needs kids with learning materials like popular reading books out of my own money because the school and parents do not have the resources to pay for them and I have to be careful where I spend that money since I have to cover my own living expenses as well. ... show more

  • Really nice!
I appreciate this very much. The Kimoyo bead with the ultraviolet reader sits nicely between the other two with an internal magnet. The book includes not only Wakandan files, but also Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D. files. A lot of research went into this book. Nice artwork.

  • Perfect for any Black Panther fan's collection
I purchased this for my son who is a huge Marvel fan and he absolutely LOVES it! He loves the black light that reveals "hidden information" and is obsessed with the book.

  • Faulty light? Otherwise cool book
The light to read the coded messages worked less than 10 minutes. Otherwise, interesting read and would make a great gift.
