  • Love the fan. Heavy duty like German Tank. Installation manual terrible
Love the online fan. Built like a tank. I would buy it again and it much quieter than other fans I dealt with. That was my good part. The installation materials and instructions have much to improve on. The instructions should include what size drill bit to use for the four wall anchors. But I figured it out after talking to a construction guy. After drilling my 1/4 iinch holes, the provided wall anchors bent and crushed upon inserting them in the holes. Went to Home Depot to get some real 1/4 inch wall anchors. Those worked as expected. I'll give a hint to anyone that has to install one of these beasts. I used a sheet of paper to lay over all four holes and made a slight indentation with my finger to mark where the holes were. I then used a felt tipped pen to mark the center of each hole. Additionally I drew an arrow on my template to indicate the direction of airflow. I then taped the template to the area on my ceiling where I planned to install the fan. Installation was fierce having to hold the fan in place as I screwed in all the screws. A better design would be a separate mounting bracket to mount first and to attach the fan to the mounting bracket as you would do a ceiling fan. Then You could easily bolt the fan to the bracket with the fan already in place. Another problem I had with the instructions is they were very small and I could not find them electronically online. The only benefit I received from the instructions was the 1 foot of straight duct distance at the inlet of the fan and the 3 feet of straight duct distance on the outlet side of the fan which improves both performance and lowers the noise. When I initially turned it on I could hear the fan blades slightly scraping the housing. It wasnt much but it was noisy until it faded after a few hours of run time. It still a 5 star fan for my purposes but the instructions and installation materials get 1 star. Someone without experience would not be able to install this fan. I wasted an afternoon trying to get the provided wall anchors to work. My recommendation is to throw them away. For such a quality fan, I dont understand why they went cheap in the installation materials. ... show more

  • For this price range, you wont find anything better
Size: 6" Silent Booster Fan (188 CFM, 26 Watts)
Like the title says, this is the perfect fan for the price. You want something quieter, or more efficient? Expect to pay around $100. I've bought many duct fans for many different projects, and for a budget fan, this thing is great. Pros: + High quality bearings (Fine at any angle) + Good build quality, with a powerful fan (Not a single thin blade like you'd get with the cheaper fans) + Very quiet for the price (Around 2-3x quieter then the cheap metal fans) + Perfect airflow, with some torque (Much more efficient then the metal fans, even though it claims to have lower) + Lowest power usage out of all the other fans + No weird/annoying noises. All you hear is moving air Cons: - Does not come with an adjustable gauge. You are either full power, or no power. That part costs an additional $10. For me, I don't find that I need to adjust it since it's perfect at the level it's at - Probably wont get the best torque behind a quality filter. Still, at this price, it's far better then what you'd usually get ... show more

  • Smooth but can be LOUD, depending...
Size: 6" Silent Booster Fan (188 CFM, 26 Watts)
Is its sound smoother than a less-expensive steel-bladed (or plastic-bladed) inline duct fan? Yes. Is it more efficient (flow per watt)? Yes. Is it any quieter? No, it's quite loud. Unless, ... I started with it in my attic for a shower vent fan, at the end of a duct about 10 feet from the shower (located away from the shower for reduced noise). Its sound was smooth like a jet engine, but it was louder than the cheaper steel-bladed fan it replaced. I tried a speed reducer from the same company, but it reduced the fan speed by only a few percent, and added an intolerable humming sound of its own. Disappointed with both. THEN I bought a 25-foot length of flexible duct, the type that comes compressed (about a foot in length) that expands as you pull it. I added it to the 10-foot duct, stretching it to the length there was room for, about 10 more feet with a 180-degree bend in the middle and a 120-degree bend just before the fan. With that arrangement, the fan is an excellent combination of quiet and effective. Yes, that combination cost some money and hassle, but it's a joy to have the shower fan be so quiet and effective, with the sound it makes very smooth and unobjectionable. ... show more

  • Awesome build quality, very quiet for high air flows, not suitable for "bedroom applications" at low speeds.
It is a really, really nice fan... I've only used it for a few minutes so can't say about longevity. But it gives an awesomely solid impression. Control works like this: You can set the base speed which it always runs at. It tweaks all the way down to a crawl where it is completely silent except for an electrical hum (~60 Hz). You can then set a thermostat knob to a temperature that will trigger maximum speed. There is no smooth ramp, just immediately full power at the trigger temperature. The only sound I can hear at full power is that of rushing air - no mechanical sounds. And it's a lot of air. Now my only remaining complaint is the electrical hum that is always present when turned on. It is drowned by clean air sounds at higher speeds, but this prevents me from using this in a bedroom, for instance. My first delivered fan was broken on delivery, and I returned for an immediate refund and had a replacement as soon as Amazon could ship it. Great! ... show more
