  • There's a battery for every job or application
Size: 12 Pcs Color: AA
2022-09-22. When it comes to batteries, there much more than meets the eye. In addition to the many different sizes of batteries, there are many different compositions, and power delivery. There are Carbon-Zinc; Zinc-Manganese Dioxide; Li-Ion; Ni-MH; Ni-Cd; LiPo, and the list goes on. But before I waste your time, you first need to know whether rechargeable batteries are right for your application. The answer is simple, if you find yourself constantly buying disposable batteries for an application, then you should consider using rechargeable batteries. Now that you know you need rechargeable batteries, which ones should you get? Once again we need to go back to the application to determine this. The most common types of rechargeable batteries will consist of the following chemistries: Ni-Cd (Nickle Cadmium), Ni-MH (Nickle Metal Hydride), and Li-ion (Lithium Ion). When it comes to rechargeable batteries, here are some of the things you need to consider: 1. Number of rechargeable cycles 2. The amount of power it can discharge (drain) 3. The rate of self discharge 4. Memory effect 5. Energy Density This review will focus on these five factors for each type of battery in the lower capacity (< 2000mAh) category . Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd). Number of charge/discharge cycles: 400-600 Discharge (drain): supports both high and low drain devices Rate of self discharge: Moderate Memory effect: Yes Energy Density: Low Ni-Cd batteries are a pretty versatile in the sense that it can support both high drain as well as low drain devices enabling it to be used pretty much across the entire spectrum of electronic devices. They perform well in any climate whether it be stifling heat or freezing cold. And they have the ability to pack a punch and can release more power on demand without becoming damaged. Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries best suited for high frequency use items and devices that require large amounts of power to function. Common uses include Cordless Phones, Walkie Talkies, Portable Radios, Flashlights, and Portable Medical Equipment. Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) Number of charge/discharge cycles: 800-1000 Discharge (drain): low drain devices Rate of self discharge: Mid-High Memory effect: No Energy Density: Mid-High Ni-MH are best suited for low drain applications with high energy consumption and demand (digital cameras, flashlights, toys). Essentially applications where you want the battery drained within a month. Memory Effect is when a battery must be fully drained before recharge or their capacity is reduced. Ni-MH rechargeable batteries do not develop a memory effect and can be recharged at anytime during usage cycle. Ni-MH batteries are not well suited for low energy draw devices like clocks and TV remotes; its high self discharge rate (about 1% per day) would also mean that Ni-MH would not be well suited for things like smoke detectors (unless you like swapping out your batteries every 3 months). Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Number of charge/discharge cycles: 300-500 Discharge (drain): supports high and low drain devices Rate of self discharge: Very Low Memory effect: No Energy Density: Mid Li-Ion batteries solves the problems associated with both Nickel based rechargeable batteries, they can deliver full voltage without developing any memory loss. The caveat here is that Li-Ion batteries deliver 3.7V and not the lower rates of 1.2V or 1.5V. The very low rate of self discharge makes this type of battery very useful for applications like Cell Phones, Laptop Computers, and Tablets. I had purchased these batteries by Tenergy to replace those in my solar lights. With a capacity of 1000mAh, it's a bit of overkill as 300-600mAh would be more than enough to last from dusk to dawn, but I figured these are without memory effect so keeping them charged will not be a problem. I've purchased these batteries before and they worked well. They last 2-3 years in my solar lights that are out about 1/2 the year. At about a buck a piece, they're a low cost solution in keeping my garden lights lit through the night. ... show more

  • Just ok
Size: 12 Pcs Color: AA
Had these in my outdoor lights for a month now and they don't stay on as long as I had wished for, about 3.5 hours. Honestly the batteries inside the solar lights from the dollar store stayed on longer during the day than these. Out of 12 batteries 1 didn't work. Will see if they last longer through time than the dollar store ones ... show more
