    • A small, inexpensive cat tree. Construction and design are consistent with low cost.

This is a small (39.4" tall) cat climber made of inexpensive materials, with some significant omissions. It is made mostly of composition board and short pile plush fabric. Assembly is easy and quick. The two main problems I found were exposed bolt heads on the bottom level that can cause sliding or scratching on smooth floors, and the top level hammock that is made of thin fabric over underlying hard board edges. I don't think the latter will hurt your cat, but it may well rip your hammock when a cat jumps in it. I fixed the bolt heads by covering them with cut-down silicone furniture leg covers, glued in place. The hammock support I padded with a couple of layers of quilt padding, cut to fit and stapled in place. Being small isn't necessarily a problem, because this climber will fit in more places. Having pointed out its deficiencies, I can still recommend it if you accept that cat climbers are meant to provide temporary amusement, and then eventually to be destroyed by sharp claws. If this is the case, you might as well not spend a lot of money on any cat tree, or worry about it being made of super sturdy materials. In my experience with many, many cats, they tend to pick one spot on the tree/climber to sleep on or in. Therefore any tree that offers a variety of platforms, hammocks, or hidey holes is fine by them, and when it falls apart in several months to a few years you can replace it without losing a big investment. ... show more

This cat tree was relatively easy to assemble (learn from my mistake, attach the posts outside the base AFTER you attach the ones on the roof!), and looks to be sturdy enough for our feline overlords.. er.. protectors. If you are installing this in a roof with hardwood floors, like I did, you should be aware that the unit sits on the bolts you install from the underside in step one. This is a design flaw, as it can (and will!) scratch your hardwood floors. Thankfully I saw this coming and attached some felt pads to each bolt-head before letting the cats use it. One other gripe is that the top "bed" is really just a pad held in place by an elastic band. Instead of putting the bed with padding as a piece, the manufacturer makes you attach a board to the top of the cat tree and then put the bed on top, very similar to a fitted sheet. Unfortunately, they fail to take into account that elastic portion is very thin, and the board has nice sharp corners. Yup, it ripped right away! Those two gripes aside, I do think this is a nice cat tree at a good price point. I just wish someone had thought things through a bit more before pushing this out to market. =/ ... show more

    • Small climber with thoughtful design

First off just to set expectations, this is a small-ish climber that isn't hugely expensive. I'm comparing it to similar climbers, not our super expensive large ones. We have some spaces where we need small footprint climbers. Sometimes those are difficult to find especially something that is small enough to fit into that space but large enough to have different spots for the cats. This one does! One appreciated feature is the bottom "condo" (cats like to climb, I don't get why so many of these cubbies are on the ground) has two entrances. That makes them inclined to use it for play, which is great. There are enough "shelves" for the cats and there is a middle section with a little hammock. While I don't expect our 20 lb cat to fit comfortably on most of this climber, our 7-15 lb cats do great and I've seen 3 on there at the same time. It went together pretty quickly - I built it in 15 minutes or less. The instructions were clear, just make sure you use the correct part # for the posts! I got going too quickly and messed up with one. I wish the scratching posts had more sisal. Our cats are good about not scratching on carpet and the posts are a mix of sisal and carpet. That being said, the carpet on this isn't going to stand up to much but again, I am comparing this to similar climbers. If you need a smaller type climber, this one is one of the better ones. Keep your expectations in check, look for a sale, and if you need the type of climber that this is, I really recommend it. ... show more

Apparently when I ordered this I missed that it said this is suitable for kittens, which means this is on the smaller size, so if you have large cats this probably wouldn't be a good fit. That being said, we have 1 cat around 9 pounds and this seems to work fine for her. Assembly is easy and straightforward and took about 15 minutes, most of that is because you are using an allen wrench. The "carpet" is pretty thin, but is on par with other store bought cat towers, but if your cat is a heavy scratcher it probably won't last that long. The "carpet" on the poles that don't have the extra rope are not glued down in the middle, so you can slightly pull it away from the cardboard tube. The top bed is a slip on cover that is a little tight to get on, but once on it should stay there. Overall, this is a decent cat tower if you don't have large cats. ... show more

It's not too big and not too small...just right! I had a gigantic tower that my cats only cared about in order to crouch and wait to slap someone walking by. This one is much shorter and perfect for those low living room windows. All three of my cats take turns on the several shelves to sit near the window and watch the birds.
