Before I this mattress topper, I would wake many times because my back or hips hurt after lying in the same position for a couple hours. I would toss and turn all night and wake up exhausted. We purchase this as a topper for our older, yet in good condition bedroom mattress, which is a bit firm due to my bad back. We both had relief the first night of usage and it also reduces the motion of someone moving or getting in and out of the bed. My sweetheart thinks it may retain some heat and it might, but not enough to remove a rating star. Over-all this topper has helped me sleep on my back and sides. We rolled it up tightly this past weekend and placed it in a bag for camping usage, it worked great. I 100% wouldn't be able to sleep on an air mattress without this 3" topper, it works. Tip: don't try to place the fitted sheet on the current mattress with the topper, just put the fitted sheet on the mattress topper and all works well. 5 stars from us! ... show more

Update: it's been 7-8 months now and I'd probably write the exact same review today, it's not degraded or sunken at all. First things first for a time reference: I'm writing this after having had the mattress pad in place for a bit over a month. Second: mine and my husband's experiences with this mattress pad are different. For me, it makes me hot when I sleep sometimes but it hasn't done the same for him; I'm an EXTREMELY cold sleeper, and he's a hot sleeper, so the logic there doesn't make sense to me, but it's what's happening. I'm not really sure if it's made a difference in my sleep quality; I think there's a good chance it has, but I'm a wreck and always have been when it comes to sleeping so I just don't know. My husband, on the other hand, has been acting like we live in a whole new world now. There was the pathetic world before the mattress pad and now the world of endless possibilities after the mattress pad. I know it sounds dramatic, but I'm not the one portraying that so give me a break here. He'll use his lunch break to just lay on the bed, laughing while excitedly hunkering down then falling asleep as quick as he always does. The impactful difference comes into play with pain; he's said many times now that the typical 'being a person who made dumb decisions while younger' back and joint and muscle pains just aren't really there now. I find it wild that a mattress pad could assuage so much (and I'm envious), but it's definitely working for him. I do find the thing comfortable, but I'm guessing my sleep problems are far more deep-seated than my external conditions so I'm a bad gauge anyway. Therefore, my husband's experience is the one that's really relevant here: for him it's apparently some sort of miracle. Logistical type info: I was looking at mattresses for a long time; we have a harder mattress. I'm a side sleeper with a pretty massive disparity between my waist vs hip/shoulder measurements, so I'm just... BENT all the time as my torso part is gravitating to the mattress but the other parts are too big to go any further. I wanted a foam-type mattress due to that, but I know there are usually problems involved with them (for whatever reason it's like a decent percentage of them just fail and sink after a year), and also Husband insists he does better with a hard mattress. This led me to believe we should get a hybrid, but those are gougingly expensive, which is gross, plus if the foam fails... it's stuck to the rest of it. Seems weird that it took me a long time to realize adding a mattress pad to our harder spring mattress literally creates a hybrid, but there it is. * I've read reviews about this falling apart or tearing after a short period of time; I went into the purchase knowing it's not really meant to be as long lasting as mattresses claim, but due to my husband's quality of life apparently sky-rocketing, I won't have a problem paying to replace it every 6 months (I mean I will, I'll hate doing it, and hopefully it will last longer). On the other hand if it only lasts a couple months, I'll be revising the review angrily, I'm sure. I'm only a bit over a month in, but the pad feels like day 1. I bought a waterproof, deep pocket mattress protector at the same time, so maybe that helps keep it from drying out, or maybe it's geological or seasonal... I just don't know why some people's fail far more quickly than they should but it makes sense to me that a waterproof protector would help with it drying out (as a ceiling or regular fan can't be hitting it as directly all the time). I was in a car accident 4 years ago and have had back pain ever since. Every morning it is especially bad because I’ve not found a mattress that doesn’t make me stiff. I ordered this topper on a whim after being disappointed with a different one I got and fully expected to be disappointed again. I woke up this morning with zero back pain. That has virtually never happened for me. I got the 3” thickness and it really conforms to your body and is super comfortable. Unboxing was really easy and it puffed up immediately. No chemical smell either. If it feels warm the first time you lay on it, don’t be discouraged. I thought it was going to get hot but the longer I laid on it, it definitely was feeling cool. I bought this because my mattress is in good condition but it’s too firm and I have back pain that is exacerbated by the sleeping in it. I had this in my cart for about 3 months before buying and my o Lu regret is not buying it sooner. Didn’t cure my back but I wake up with much less pain and the only problem is that I’m so comfortable I don’t want to get up in the morning. My kids are super jealous of it. I got the 3” and it did make the bed much higher but it’s worth it- add a step stool to your cart if you’re short. ... show more
