The alarm clock/light has a 30 minute gradual wake-up light with color and brightness and sound options. The quick-start sheet is all you'll need to operate it, but it comes with a more thorough guide to set it up too. Most of the controls are pretty easy to figure out with sensible symbols. There's a timer button right on the front with different timers you can cycle though. Granted it doesn't exactly have buttons. They're touch-operated locations on a flat easy-to-clean surface. I like the round shape and it stays in place with a flat base. For colors, there's a cycling rainbow, all the ROYGBIV colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, etc.), pink, cool white, daylight, or warm white, and you can set your preferred brightness level. The clock display is always a cool light, but you can dim it or even turn it completely off, though it will turn back on when the alarm operates, which is actually pretty nice. There is also a nightlight setting that provides a very dim warm white light. For sounds, you can set various types with different volumes, or even use no sound. I like waking up to just the light, but the bedtime sounds are very nice for creating a soothing environment. You can also use the sounds without the light and use the timer options for them too. There are various nature sounds (I like the storm for going to bed), several music options (some are lullabies) as well plenty of humming/fan/white noise sounds. It seems like everyone has a preferred frequency for these, so it's pretty easy to find a good one. The radio is an option too. We've had a few of these light/sound alarm clocks. This one is nice because you can really customize your wake-up for bedtime experience with it. I think it would be just as great for a kid as an adult. ... show more

Right out of the starting blocks (a little summer Olympics reference), I love the quirky good looks and silky feel of this clock. It reminds me of something from the 1960s! The fit of all the parts is flawless as well. Next, I love the feature set, which is far more extensive than I expected. Here are some of the highlights: 1. White noise generator 2. Fan sounds 3. Sounds of nature 4. Auto scanning and programming FM stations 5. Nine color combinations 6. Control over combinations of the foregoing 7. Coin cell battery backup in case power goes out Setup was relatively easy using the included user manual and quick start card. I say "relatively" because it is a bit twitchy when setting up the color preferences using the snooze button on the top rear. It took some doing to figure out how to issue the taps that control the light options. That being said, I made it through. Just be patient. And finally, I love how it works! I went with the orange light and didn't realize I had chosen bird song as the audible accompaniment. It was the sound of birds singing that woke me up, but it was pleasant to see the warm glow of the clock. It will be especially nice come this winter. If you want to use a gradual wakening system, I highly recommend this option. If delivered far more than I expected and I love how well it works. ... show more

This is the most customizable alarm clock that I have ever handled, and yet it still is fairly simple to use. Truely, the amount of features on this clock is amazing. I like the retroish styling of the clock, it has almost a 50's vibe going. The clock is easy to read even when I don't have my glasses on. I like the gradual brightening effect of the alarm, I find it to be a fairly comfortable way to wake up. But the feature I think I have fallen in love with the most is the background noise options to help you get to sleep. My current favorite is the ocean waves hitting the beach with an occasional gull in the background. I find it very peaceful & soothing. It noticeably helps me get to sleep quicker, and to sleep more soundly.
