Quick delivery, easy setup, superb sound. Installed eyelets along the window sill behind and above the unit to run the radio antenna through; the wire is looped at the end, so it's easy to secure with a thumbtack. The radio locks onto stations I didn't even know were available out here in the sticks! WDET (50 miles away) sounds like it's broadcasting from across the street. Everything works easily via the remote (CD player, FM station presets or scanning, EQ settings, USB, Bluetooth, Clock, Sleep settings). Also the illuminated unit settings are easily visible from 10-12 feet away. Loved it so much I played Betty Carter's CD "Look What I Got!" six times on the first night.     • BETTER SOUND THAN EXPECTED
First off, this system is very inexpensive and very compact in size. Entire system costs less than a decent pair of bookshelf speakers. PROS - Fast set up, decent remote, built in equalizer with pre-set acoustic profiles, USB Thumb Drive input, Bluetooth. Sound isn’t audiophile but is surprisingly good in a medium sized room. CONS - Speaker wires are light gauge and built into the cabinets. OK for setting up system on a shelf or table, but if you need to place speakers away from main unit, you’ll need to splice in additional speaker wire. ... show more

This is a system from the 1980's....not really but it looks and feels that way. It is very simple, well made and the sound is good. If you're looking for a system that will shake the walls, this is not it. This unit is a low priced, well made. good system. The speakers are smaller but the sound is good.     • Nice little unit
I purchased this for my teen daughter as a birthday present. In the present time, it's hard to find something like this anymore. The amp and speakers are decent, and it can play CDs, from an Aux input, or stream via Bluetooth. The unit is easy to setup, and it sounds pretty good for the price. My unit arrived with a European AC power cord, despite being sold in the USA. Since it automatically adjusts to either 120/240 volts, all I needed was a plug adapter, which was easier than returning it for a replacement.     • Philips M4205: Good sound, poor functionality
First, the positives: This system sounds very nice considering the price point. It was easy to set up and its footprint is small. The Negatives: I bought this bookshelf system for one feature. Specifically to be able to play music from my iPod and iPhone. The unit does neither. Nor does the bluetooth work. I set it up and plugged in my iPod. The LED display says its reading the files and then displays a message saying "No USB". I checked the connection (its connected) then tried a different device. Same result. I went to Philips website for support and downloaded the user guide. The guide states the system won't work with some devices (it doesn't specify which). A BIG negative like that should have been mentioned in the product description. Another negative in my opinion is the chintzy feel of the controls and the less than smooth opening and closing of the CD tray. My expectation is this unit won't last very long, however, given the size of the box and the hassle factor to return for a refund, I will just keep it and play CD's for as long as it lasts. Overall I would not recommend this product. If you are still set on buying one, do yourself a favor and make sure it will interface with your MP3 player & bluetooth. **UPDATE** March 31, 2023 I have made several attempts to contact Philips for support to find out why my mp3 devices don't work with USB connection. All I get are automated responses from the company saying they will respond in 24-48 hours. They never actually address my issues. In addition the CD player has begun to make intermittent, loud clicking noises when playing CD's. In light of the poor customer support and poor performance of the unit that was purchased less than 3 months ago, I would strongly recommend AGAINST purchase of this CD player. ... show more
