I had never heard about or seen Zebra Blinds before ordering this blind. I was looking for unique blinds for a guest bedroom at our lake cabin when I spotted these blinds. I decided to give them a try. The entire unit seems like it's made well. The valance that houses the blinds is made of aluminum that is powder-coated white. It looks nice. The blinds themselves are made of a thick plastic, similar to the thick shelf-liner plastic I use. The blinds are easy to install. They can be installed inside a window frame - assuming you have close to 3-inches of depth to work with, or they can be installed outside of the window frame. If installed inside the frame, the brackets are screwed into the bottom of the inside top frame. If mounted outside the frame, the brackets are attached to the wall. It's nice that the brackets can be used in either orientation. While my design for the bedroom was to have blinds inside the window frames, we only have 1-inch of depth in the window. Because the valance for these blinds is so large, the blinds just look odd sticking out so far out of the frame. I understand the valance is what holds the blinds when they are rolled up, but I do wish there were a way that the design of this piece not be so large. The blinds come with hardware to anchor the rod at the bottom of the blinds to the window frame or wall. This keeps the roller shade part taut in the window. I knew the blinds I ordered were 72-inches long/tall - which is twice the length I need for these bedroom windows. I figured since the blind is housed in the valance, we could just pull the blind down to the length we need, and the rest of the blind would just stay in the valance. This works, but the issue is the pull chain. It is designed for the full length of 72-inches. So if you're not using the full length of the blind, that chain still dangles down 72-inches. I was hoping to find a way to shorten this chain. It would be a nice design feature for this set to have a chain that could be custom sized by the customer. Overall, I think these Zebra Blinds are a pretty cool way to cover a window. They are definitely unique! I think this product could be made even better if the valance portion could be made smaller and if the chain were made so that it's adjustable. For the price of these blinds, the quality is good. The shade can be mounted either inside or outside. Just need a screw driver to finish the installation. Looks so neat. Pretty good for privacy and light filtering. The only thing is that the bottom weighted roll is shorter than the width of the shade, so the roll can't be used with the designed clips to stay in place. I have to just leave it at the bottom for weighting but sometimes it comes out from the side of the shade ... show more
