I have been researching, debating, shopping, reading reviews for a very long time and felt like I found what I was looking for in this 10W charger so I purchased a few months ago. I buy and sell a few cars as a hobby and in some cases the car sits a very long time before I get around to selling. I do use pug in battery maintainers on motorcycles and cars in a garage that are close to AC power but I needed a good solar charger as I have a few cars in my back yard that I try and start and run but during winter months I forget, This 10w version is perfect. I check the cigarette lighter, 12v outlet in my car / suv to make sure the inside 12v outlet does not turn off with key ( Use a cell phone charger with led light to check yours ) but I prefer to use the inside the car plug simply so the unit does not sit in the rain, as I understand it has no issue with rain but I siply keep it in the front window and it works fine. The #1 thing I needed with a charger is that it had to have the built in maintainer "smart" electronics as I did not want to overcharge my battery. Looks like many other small solar charges does not have that smart box but this unit does! I was surprised to the build quality as it looks and feel better that I was expecting. I have an older SUV that the battery was getting old and weak and failed to start. I did charge the old battery with a plug in charger but I then connected this solar charger and the car sat but this unit kept the battery charged, The 10w version I find perfect for keeping car batteries ready to crank! I got this to maintain the battery in my pickup truck, which I seldom drive. I just laid it on the dash under the wind shield, and plugged it in to the 12v aux port in the dash. So far it has kept the battery topped off, even on cloudy days. If you do use one of these make sure the 12V port is connected even when your vehicle is off. If it is not, best to go straight to the battery with the supplied clamps. Overall, I am very happy with this unit and highly recommend it. ... show more

Needs more sun than the one it replaced. Sometimes I only get 8 volts which will not charge a battery. Tractor did stary after 2 or 3 months so expect it does change sometimes.

Works perfectly. Have a pickup who's battery usually dies after a day. Have installed this months ago and it brought the battery up from dead and keeps it charged. We keep the trk in the sun and only start the truck about once a month. Starts every time.

This review is for the: 5 Watt Solar Car Battery Charger 12 Volt Waterproof Solar Powered Battery Charger & Maintainer 12v Solar Trickle Charger for Car Boat RV Marine Trailer Battery. I received the charger and hooked it up this morning. The main issue thus far is that there is a black rectangular "box" mounted to the bottom of the solar panel. That the box (less than an inch tall) will not allow the suction cups to connect with the windshield, as they are too short to reach it. This will likely be a problem on windy days as I expect the solar panel to be blown off the windshield. I'm going to figure out a way to secure the solar panel, but if it were designed correctly in the first place it wouldn't be an issue. Also, I was unable to find any "red" or "blue" light as noted in the manual. On the positive side, I connected the panel cable to the car battery terminals and, using a voltage meter, the reading was 12.92 volts. So, at least for now, the charger seems to work. ... show more
