  • A powerful sump pump
I got this as a backup to our main sump pump for the basement. This thing is a beast. It uses the floating type switch, which has both pros and cons to it. Our other pump uses the enclosed ball float switch, meaning it rides up and down in a frame. Those are good because they don’t get jammed up, but stuff can get inside the frame and jam the ball in an on or off position. That can’t happen with the floating switches, but they can get stuck under something. These floating switches also stop working with about 2-3 inches of water left, however the framed ball floats can leave even more. Yes, that means there is no winner in the switching category. As to the pumping action, while I got it for a backup to my system, one of my friends was installing an underground cistern for her well. The person that installed the tank wasn’t hitting on all cylinders and left the top open on the tank. Of course it rained the next day and that proceeded to fill the tank with a bunch of muddy water. This pump came to the rescue. I have no idea how much water it pumped out, but it was a fair amount. I dropped it into the tank and in less than 5 minutes it had the water to a manageable level. We then used a small, 12v bilge pump to pull out the remaining couple of inches. The sump pump is now back on my parts shelf, waiting for its turn to save my basement. I have to give this 5 stars. I cannot say how long it will last, but if the weight is any indication on how well built, then I would hope that lasts a long, long time. Note: I have been an Amazon customer for almost 20 years. I write all of my reviews to reflect my personal observations and opinions on a product. It matters not if I have purchased the item myself or if it was provided to me for review. My goal is to provide other potential customers as much real-world knowledge as possible to make an informed decision. In some cases I will return to my review in 6 months or less to see if I should alter my original observations. In no case will the cost of a product influence my opinions at all. In addition, I will try to include multiple images and or videos on each product, if practical. ... show more

  • Great pump to empty my swim spa.
Out old pump finally gave out and we had to find a replacement for the 2x a year we change out the water in our 1600 gal swim spa. I have about 15ft of head when I pump out the spa, this handled it with no issues and had the spa empty in about 3.5 hours. This pump does have afloat with both an automated and manual mode. The float would be useful if you wanted to keep a basement or bilge from flooding. I used this in manual mode. A great purchase if you have a need for a submersible pump. ... show more

  • Powerful and quiet
Very sleek and powerful pump with super quiet operation. Comes with a super long cord too so you don't necessarily even need an extension cord to use it in many situations.

  • Solid pump for the price, hookup to garden hose requires cutting
Well I've owned a variety of utility 'pumps' over the years and most of them are pretty useless once you add lift (height). One that I've found is really reliable is no longer for sale, so I've been on the hunt for another. Keep in mind, ol' reliable was only 1/3 hp and could pump a tremendous amount of water through a 150ft hose, with 10 feet of lift. I've used 2hp utility pumps that could only bring the water to a trickle in that same setup. It's really very bizarre! Anyway, this pump seems to be rated properly... or I should say priced properly. It's about the same price as 'ol reliable would have been, adjusted for inflation. It is slightly louder, but not a lot. I've had pumps sound like they would be shooting water out the end of the hose like a fire hydrant, only to be disappointed. Sound is only a secondary concern to the main function of the pump--pumping water. For that I give it 5 stars! The size of the unit is neutral to me. It's not something I can say is a 'positive' because the pump next to it (first picture) pumps nearly the same volume of water out of the hose. The smaller pump's size IS a positive because of how small it is compared to its ability. It's also not a negative quality because it's not overly large. Another neutral feature is the float mechanism. It's nice that it has a float to control on/off, but it's too bad there isn't a toggle to keep it permanently off. According to the manual, you must simply keep the float in the 'up' position. Wedge it, or clip it in the 'up' position to the handle. The way of controlling how high the water is allowed to get before activation can be controlled by clipping the float's tether to the handle in whatever spot you'd like. The closer to the float you clip the tether, the lower the water level is allowed to rise before the pump is activated. Neither a good, nor a bad mechanism. The whole float is neither good nor bad, just neutral... mostly because most utility pumps don't even come with them. The plug-in wire is a nice, long length. I appreciate this because who wants to deal with extension cords in an area you are trying to pump water out of?? Hrmmmmm? So this is a definite positive! Okay, the big negative for those of us trying to use this with garden hoses... you have to cut the adapter. That's kind of goofy if you ask me. For the price of this unit, you shouldn't have to cut an adapter to use (arguably) the most common method to pump water--via a garden hose. This was enough to take a star off for me. You be the judge of it. Luckily I had another liberty pump check valve/GHT adapter on hand (last picture). Great unit so far. I'll update if it gives out prematurely. ... show more

  • Good for emergency basement sump pump
We have a basement that already has Zoeller sump pump installed and that usually does a really good job. But occasionally we get extreme rain and flooding and that pump can't keep up. This pump would not work as a permanently installed sump pump in a sump pit because there normally wouldn't be enough room for the float/switch to raise and lower. But when the other pump gets overloaded and the basement floods this works fantastic as a backup to quickly empty it out and keep the water from getting too high. Great price too! ... show more

  • Overheats easily, high clearance
Overall, this pump was very nice to have and moved a lot of water fairly quickly. My frustrations were that it overheated a few times and turned itself off. It took a while to get it working again. There were a couple of other times that there wasn't enough pressure (or suction, I guess) to move the water up and out, and it took some extra effort to get it working properly. We honestly never figured out what the magic trick was to get it to work, we were just thankful it finally did. Also, it seemed like it had higher clearance than other pumps I've used, meaning there was still a lot of water left to pump, but the pump was too high to move the water. ... show more
