  • Nice pool for some backyard summer fun!
I bought this Summer Waves 14ftx48in pool for some summer fun at home. With the local pools and other places closed for the summer, we thought it would be fun to get an above ground pool that we could use for some extra fun at home. We ordered the light wicker pattern, and I'm a fan with the look and finish of the pool. It looks nicer than the blue and white color pattern that you see with some of these pools. I was concerned about the negative reviews with liner issues, but I'm happy to say ours has been good so far. I figured they make so many of these pools that the majority don't have issues. The setup was pretty easy, but I did put in quite a bit of prep work to level the ground ahead of setting up the pool. We dug out the grass, leveled the ground, placed & leveled paver stones, and the added a level layer of sand to protect the pool from the clay soil. After all of that, my wife and I worked together to get the pool pit together, and it was probably up and starting to fill with water in about a half hour. We put together the ladder and pump setup while the pool was filling. I had read that the latter was very flimsy, so my expectations were pretty low. However, it actually is much sturdier than I expected. I'm sure there are more sturdy options out there, but this ladder works. Regarding the pump, the performance of the pump also was better than what I expected. I chose this pool over the Intex pools because of the skimmer setup with the pump. I was pleasantly surprised to feel how much suction the pump really has. I turned the output of the return at a 45 degree downward angle away from the skimmer, and it quickly had the water circulating around the pool. We may still elect to upgrade to a larger pump and sand filter down the road, but we plan on sticking with the stock setup for now as it seems to work fine for this size pool. 3 Month Update: The pool is still holding up very well, and has been great for our family. I wanted to provide an update to the pump comments I had above. It seems that this pump and filter is adequate, but cannot keep up with heavy use. With two young kids who will use the pool every day if we let them, the water has been cloudy after repeated days of use leaving the pump running 24 hours a day and cleaning the filters daily. If we don't use the pool for 2-3 days with the filter running, it will get the water crystal clear again. With enough time, and with more infrequent use of the pool, his pump and filter work. However, heavy use where the kids or family are in the pool daily with sunscreen, dirt, etc. getting added to the water, this pump can't keep up and the water gets hazy. I think a bigger pump with more filter media would likely be able to keep up with the heavy daily use, and we will probably make the conversion over to an upgraded pump/filter next season. There are a few items I would like to point out that could be improved: First off, the details in the listing aren't 100% accurate, at least for this light wicker version. The listing mentioned that the tubes were going to be oval like the Summer Waves Elite series, but they are actually circle profile. Looking on Summer Waves website, the light wicker version of this pool is actually classified as a standard Summer Waves series. Second, the listing also mentioned that the pump takes D type cartridge filters, however it really takes the A/C type filters. I would recommend buying extra filters after you setup the pool just to make sure you get the same size. Next, the pool does not include the vacuum adapter for the skimmer that is required for attaching pool vacuum tubes to the pool. I had to buy that extra for $20, and it really should come with the skimmer/pump in the package. It would also be nice if it included the standard cover and the ground cover cloth (aka "tarp"). I bought both of those as extras. I wouldn't say they should be required, but you will likely want them. Overall, I'm very happy with this pool and would recommend. ... show more

  • Better than I expected, if you prep your surface
Love the pool and you can put it up in about 30 minutes to start filling it up. I recommend only one person set up the pool. I have had it up for almost two months I think and no leaks, the water level never goes down, and the only maintenance I do is when I get in the pool. The skimmer 1000 works great and is ample power for the 14' x 48" Summer Waves pool. Advice for anyone wanting one and wants it to be simple to put up is get your spot level before you even open the box. Make sure you have at least 15' of level smooth surface. Lay down a tarp and a pool blanket then unfold the liner and plug frame together and you can be filling the pool up in 30 minutes. I spent two days installing small composite deck to have a level surface and it worked great but that was $2,000. If you have flat grass that would be the best option. Other I bought that I needed were a big heavy gauge extension cord, a pole skimmer, a vacuum adapter for the actual pool skimmer, an 18' x 1 1/4" pool hose, a vacuum head, a vacuum pole, a tube of o-ring/gasket silicon (skimmer assembly gaskets need this or they will dry out and go bad), a thermal pool blanket (heats the pool up to 85 degrees on some days), a tarp to put on teh ground to prevent holes, a pool pad to also prevent holes and make it soft, a chlorine float, chlorine tablets, balancing tablets, a pool thermometer, two baskets to hang on the side rail for stuff, and a big outdoor storage container for storing most of the stuff on this list when not in use. I probably need one more place to put our pool toys but have not bought that yet. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY THIS POOL!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could give a rating of ZERO I. would!
The media could not be loaded. First pool arrived and upon set up and filling, a leak at the bottom seam was observed. After much haggling with the company they did send a replacement, but felt the need to argue that perhaps the leak was somehow our fault. We have have had MANY pools and put one up yearly. We have never had an issue with any other pool we have purchased. Second pool/liner arrives and after 2 months of very little use this summer, the seam at the bottom has a fast leak. The pool level has been observed to have dropped about 2 inches overnight. Even though the original purchase was made in April, we did not set it up until Memorial Day at which time we observed the leak in the first liner. We did not receive replacement pool/liner until mid June. The company states it is out of warranty since it was purchased in April! POOR QUALITY!!!!! DO NOT PURCHASE!!!! POOR COMPANY POLICIES?CUSTOMER SERVICE! ... show more

  • Worth every penny
Like most, I was struggling to figure out what to do with my kids this summer while we're sheltering in place. This pool has been worth every penny - my kids are in it nearly every day. Pros: it's big enough that they can jump and splash and swim underwater. I've had 3 adults and 4 kids in the pool with floats at the same time and it didn't feel like we were too crowded. The vinyl liner is surprisingly sturdy - they can push off of it with their feet as they swim across the pool underwater. The filter pump isn't too bulky or noisy. Cons: The filter/pump is tiny and doesn't really keep the pool clean. You will absolutely need to buy a cover and a standalone vacuum (like an underwater dustbuster) which are cheap and work very well. Installation note: I set mine up on paver stones (hardscape). I read a few reviews that said you cannot do this. You can. However, you have to create a foundation layer so the liner doesn't get ripped. I used 1" foam insulation boards & duct tape to create a base layer under the pool. It worked a charm and creates a softer surface underfoot while protecting the liner. I can't speak to the "takedown" process as that will not happen for a few months but it does have a drain at the bottom of the pool for a hose to attach which will allow the water to flow outward. ... show more
