  • Best fret ends on cheap guitar ever...
Color: Black Style: SSS Pickup
I could say something about the strings not being very good, but they're cheap strings. For an entry level guitar, this is the best machined and put together guitar I have tried. I would put it above any of the Squier entry levels or the Harley.Benton. It's really really very nice, If you like cheap guitars. I should change the word cheap to entry level. ... show more

  • Great beginner kit, with obvious cost saving measures – READ THIS for details
Color: Sapphire Blue Style: SSS Pickup
I’m giving this kit 4 stars, because for the target demographic, it’s a really good kit. That target demographic is the absolute beginner. Players with even a few months of experience will start seeing where some corners were cut to save costs – but with a good set up and some minor work (that is easily done yourself) this kit can keep a beginner guitarist going for a few years before they will absolutely need an upgrade. Strich, in general, makes some pretty good entry-level gear. This guitar looks great, and I especially love the black fret board (probably some engineered ebony look-alike wood) against the blue and white, it really looks nice. A nice thing about this kit is that it comes with an entry-level bit of everything a new guitarist will want to play with. What are capos about? This kit has one. Don’t know how to tune -- it has a tuner. Oh, you broke a string – there is a spare set of strings. It also comes with a basic cotton strap, clip-on tuner, spare XL gauge strings, cheese cloth, 10 foot patch cable, plastic capo, a few celluloid picks of different thicknesses, rechargeable amp, and gig bag. The cable is on the thinner side, sheathed in PVC, but of decent audio quality. It only has 126 pf/meter parasitic capacitance, which is definitely up there with more expensive cables, and better than any cheap cable you would buy separately. The gig bag is also surprisingly good, and it actually fits everything that this kit comes with, including the amp. My picture of it leaning against the green wall is actually the fully loaded gig bag. Also, the out-of-the-box set up was actually quite playable for me. String height, neck straightness, intonation, etc. were all fairly decent – decent enough that a beginner wouldn’t notice any problems. Now, this could have just been pure luck (and probably was). I still did a full set-up anyway, and it definitely needed it. The truss rod neede a ¼ turn, the action was too high, and intonation was only a little bit off. But it wasn’t impossible to play out of the box. If you’re buying this for a total beginner, and you don’t know much about guitars, be sure to have a friend who plays guitar, or a guitar teacher, help make sure it’s set up well. This is arguably the most important factor for a beginner to get done right to make learning as non-frustrating as possible. Now let’s talk about all the little issues that reveal this kit to be entry level. The worst offender was the frets, which were pretty rough and need a good polishing/finishing. Bending strings feels like bending on sand paper. You can tell some machine leveled the frets, because some of them are pretty flat (and rough) on the top, especially the higher frets. At least the frets weren’t sharp on the ends, so they won’t cut up your hands. The hardware and body finish had several minor blemishes, lots of brush marks in clear coat, and an unforgivable little raised snag on the back of the neck behind the 4th fret that I had to sand down immediately (hopefully that was just a one-off). It was VERY hard to remove the plastic protective covering from pick guard, since all of the screws, nuts, and fretboard were mounted on top of it! All 3 pots were loose and needed to be tightened. Overall this made the build feel kind of janky until everything was tightened up, and the plastic bits were fished out of all the nooks and crannies. The tuners are inconsistent, but basically work fine. As long as you’re not inspecting it too closely, it looks great. The little amp is rinky-dinky, and fits in the palm of your hand. It certainly doesn’t get very loud, but it sounds ok for its very tiny size. It does have a clean and dirty channel, with one tone knob, but the amp gain affects both channels, so if the gain is down, it doesn’t matter how much you turn the volume up. For a super simple starter amp that lets you at least hear the guitar, it’s fine. It can also double as a Bluetooth speaker (but I didn’t test that function). It’s not hissy or whiny, so that’s a definite plus. All the electronics, pickups, selector switches, etc. worked properly, and are of sufficient quality for this kit. If the owner of this kit sticks with guitar for more than a few months, they’ll definitely end up replacing the amp and strings, but the guitar itself and gig bag should last a long time, especially if it’s set up well and you finish the frets nicely. I have some reservations about how durable the cable will be, especially since kids tend to really twist these things up beyond reason. I know I pointed out a lot of problems, but I just wanted to be complete. Really I’m amazed at how much quality can be had in a basic kit like this these days for such a reasonable price, minor problems aside. This is the perfect kit to play for a few years to really decide if the guitar is for you. For the price (under $160 at the time of this review), this is a solid 4 stars. Recommended. ... show more

  • A Pretty Incredible Beginner's Kit
Color: Sunburst Style: SSS Pickup
To be fair right off the bat, this is not a very good electric guitar. It loses it's tuning pretty fast between uses, sounds a bit tinny, and the amp is laughable. BUT.... it is pretty incredible what quality you get for this price point. This is an *almost* complete kit for any guitar beginner (all that's missing is a pick). You get a tiny little (but functional) amp, cable, case, extra strings (!) and even more that any beginner would need. It's a heavy, durable and functional electric guitar. I'm blown away at the quality given all you're getting. This guitar is absolutely perfect for anyone who thinks they want to get started on guitar, but might not be fully committed or just wants to play and experiment at first. You can get this guitar, not use it for a while, and feel no guilt because the investment is so minimal. I can't say enough about it. For what it is and what it's marketed as - this is perfect! ... show more

The guitar itself is well-crafted and comfortable to play. The SSS pickups offer a versatile range of tones, perfect for a variety of genres. The digital tuner is a lifesaver for ensuring accurate tuning, and the capo is a handy tool for exploring different keys. The kit also comes with a case, strap, strings, a cable, and picks, so you're ready to rock right out of the box. The quality of the accessories is excellent, and they're perfect for beginners. • It's a great starter guitar
Color: Sapphire Blue Style: SSS Pickup
The set comes with everything a new guitarist is going to need including a small powerful amp, capo, tuner, strap and gig bag. The guitar itself isn't anything special but it still shreds and performs out of its price range. The amp itself is pretty loud for only 10W. A couple of bright spots that stand out about the guitar are that it's a very nice looking guitar, the machine heads hold the strings tune really well, and the neck is a satin finish making sliding up and down the fret board smooth. My biggest complaint about it is that there is a continuous noise/humming that comes through even when the guitar is idle. It's nothing while you're playing but if you're sitting switching songs and nothings playing on the guitar you'll hear it. ... show more
