I'm glad we inspected this wedding gift early. Like so many products these days, this dinnerware set was not packaged for the age of online shipping, much less to survive the current trend of using cheaper and less protective packaging. Each group of dinnerware (plates, mugs, bowls, saucers) came in a box, all inside a larger box. And while the boxes themselves weren't overly thin, there was no cushioning whatsoever. Even a thin metal pan baking set that we recently bought on amazon for a fraction of the price, came with each pan individually wrapped in bubble-wrap. So, how Stone Lain thought they could get away with not providing any padding between such heavy stoneware... I can only assume it was a calculated risk at their expense (and their customers inconvenience), as their site is already well set up to handle replacement requests, and they were very quick to do so when ours arrived with a scratched plate and cracked and leaking mug. It probably would have been a lot worse if amazon hadn't delivered it themselves. As for the product itself, it seems like something that will last for generations, if they're not dropped on a hard floor. Or at least until my niece gets to an age where she appreciates something that takes less cabinet space and isn't so heavy. But, they do seem made tough. Though, the finish will scratch and like hand-made products, these do suffer from some uniformity inconsistencies: Some plates are slightly smaller or not quite perfectly flat, so that they won't stably stack. I would presume such to be innate to the curing process, so using a rack that stands the plates vertically may prove the better option for storage out of necessity in addition to the increased utility. I also have a hard time understanding the steep difference in price just between different colors, when all are sold by amazon itself, not different vendors, and there is no unique patterning or anything, just plain solid colors. Fortunately, my niece wanted black, which was the most affordably priced, by a large margin. I would recommend the company, as I found them very responsive, friendly, and quick to get support from, even if you should probably expect some damaged pieces due to packaging inadequate for shipping. As for the product: if you love the style, it should prove easy to forgive any shortcomings and seems like it should last a long, long time. ... show more

I purchased two sets of these dishes for wedding gifts for my son and daughter-in-love. We were all so pleased upon opening the box to see the great quality of the stoneware. Each piece has a great feel to it - the weight is balanced. The edges were smooth and the bottoms were not going to scratch your table if moved around on the surface. As my son unboxed both sets, he noticed a couple of very small spots on 2 plates (out of 2 complete sets of dishes) that the glaze had not covered, and the spots were white on matte black dishes. He contacted the company, and they handled the situation with great customer service. They sent new plates out immediately for the two that had spots - and those two arrived in perfect condition. These dishes are really a great quality product that the company stands behind. They look great on the table and could compliment any style of decorating. Highly recommend! ... show more

I was a little nervous purchasing this stoneware set at first after reading some reviews about chips. I took the chance purchasing the set and decided if I they were chipped up I would send them back. The set was delivered quick and it was packaged very well to prevent damage. After washing all of these I only found one small chip on the larger plate and I did find some paint/sealer drips on the smaller plates. Honestly, I didn’t notice this until after washing these and I can expect that if I didn’t want any flaws I should just buy myself a real expensive set of stoneware that I would never use because they are too expensive to risk any type of damage. When washing the set it was a little slippery and they had some weight to them. Honestly, they were lighter and just as slippery than the previous set I had for the last 13 years. I love the color, style, and the lipped edges on these! Very contemporary. I’m only giving 4 stars because I just got them and haven’t used them for daily use yet and the minor flaws. Looove these dishes!!! Great size and well made. They have a very nice weight to them. But by far the thing that impressed me the most is how well they were packaged. 💕 I checked them all to make sure there were no cracks and scrapes and as soon as i opened the box i could tell that that wasn’t going to be an issue. I was worried that ordering plates delivered would be risky at best for getting them undamaged. The mugs are not enormous (don’t worry i have my personal giant mug for morning coffee) but are not small either. Should i ever be entertaining 8 people at once that require a hot beverage, i will be proud to use these mugs. Bowls are nice and big for soup…. oh who am i kidding, i mean half the carton of ice cream. (i don’t play by the ridiculous “suggested serving size” nonsense) and the plates will make it appear that you only took one helping when we both know you took enough to feed a couple people. Now i will say that two of the salad plates (again who am i kidding… cake plates) had noticeable manufacturing swirls in them but i think it added charm to the collection. But i only mention it as i know that there are some people who would be bothered by such a thing. I am so excited to finally have a nice matching set. We have had a mishmash of plates that were all lone survivors from dishes long gone through the years. Overall, but these plates. I give them 5 stars and two thumbs up!! ... show more
