  • Mounting hardware is a joke
Style: Alpine - 11 Cu Ft
The actual box is fine. It's as advertised. I did not experience any problems with wind noise or bothersome flopping driving at highway speeds. The box is not as rigid as I expected. It's floppy and doesn't open smoothly out of the box. But once tightened down onto a roof rack it firms up and operates fine. The locking mechanism is a bit cranky. It's not the easiest to operate, and given the way it's exposed inside the box, it can get easily blocked by the contents. These are all minor issues, and not a huge problem. I also had to drill new holes to get the box to fit on my non-adjustable roof rack. I thought that might be the case, and some careful work with a hand drill made that an easy fix. The real problem with this box is the mounting hardware. It's just poorly conceived from start to finish. When I first read the instructions, I thought, "you have got to be kidding me!" Each corner of the box has this bizarre assembly consisting of two bolts, washers, a couple drilled plates, and a bar with a hole in one end and a keyhole in the other. The installation process involves installing these in a particular order, then loosening each bolt out of the keyhole. Then, you have to heft the box over your rack, with the bolts and the bar dangling loosely on each corner. You have to then magically align each set of bolts so the bolts are on each side of the rack, and the bar scoots under the rack. The entire time, you have to somehow avoid scratching your roof up with these dangling, loose bits of hardware. This is unacceptable. A better scheme is trivial - just use U-bolts to affix each corner! What's truly insulting is that the manufacturer HAS a u-bolt kit! They just want to sell you this, THEN sell you MORE hardware so mounting isn't an insulting PITA. For hundreds of dollars, I expect they could include $3 worth of u-bolts. C'mon! ... show more

  • Great cargo box! Quality build.
Style: Alpine - 11 Cu Ft
This has been a great addition for our trips. I had logged about 10k miles with it and it has been solid. No rain has pushed into the cargo area and the noise is pretty low. I don’t notice any difference with my mpg and even if I did the additional space and organization is worth it! Lock works great and hinges are strong. I have included some images of my install. Take your time and measure from fixed points and tape down your plates to use as templates. I installed this in about 45 minutes by myself taking my time to measure and think through the process. This is mounted to Thule aero bars. ... show more

  • This is the way to go.
Style: Alpine - 11 Cu Ft
Great product. It's light weight, watertight, flexible when open but sturdy when closed. It has three latches holding the front, middle and rear shut and you cannot lock it shut / remove the key till all three latches are completely closed. Straps from bags have a tendency to interfere when closing and this safety mechanism will ensure that it is completely latched b/f you can remove the key. Assemble the mounting brackets b/f you lift it onto the vehicle and it'll go smoothly. I've had this completely stuffed w/ luggage and no problem. This winter I'll see if I can put three snowboards in it which is the real reason for my purchase. About 1/2 MPG is lost b/c of additional wind resistance. It stays stable and does not wobble around up there on my minivan. Again, great product, great price. No worries with it. I purchased from an Amazon vender which was risky if a return was needed b/c postage would be on me. It arrived UPS in perfect condition. It'll come in a big long box that weighs very little. Just completed the Co ski trip and I put 3 boards w/ two pair of boots, a pair of ski's / poles / ski boots along with 3 frozen pizzas up there in this thing. The bindings on the boards are the limiting factor but maybe 4 could be included - but I know three fit. Also, we traveled through a storm. In between bad weather I was driving 80 mph into a 40 mph wind and this carrier barely wobbled ( I was watching the front through the sun roof ). Extremely impressed with this thing. It held up through some extreme windy conditions. It's a great buy. ... show more
