I wanted a cargo carrier for our full-sized SUV (Chevy Tahoe) in order to be able to carry extra items that don't fit in inside the back of our car. I mainly use this cargo carrier for transporting our bikes. The reason why I didn't get a specific carrier design only for bikes, is that I wanted it to be versatile so I can use it for bikes and also other things I may need to use it for (i.e. boxes, ice, chest, camping, etc.). As it turns out, it works great for bicycles! I'm able to fit two adult mountain bikes and one youth bike in it seamlessly. I like the added feature of this cargo carrier that allows you to open up the side gates. If I'm transporting bikes, I open one side of the cargo so that the entire bike can fit on it flat. I just make sure I secure the bikes pretty good with some cables, and it's good to go! It's very simple to connect the cargo to the hitch on my Chevy Tahoe. Used the carrier on a camping trip. It is sturdy and holds the weight evenly when the items are distributed properly. Does not rattle with the stabilizer provided. I can open my cars door in the back easily as long as I do not exceed the height between the rack and door. Removable rails gives ease of use and access to items. Update: made it across the US over 2000 miles. Began sagging and swaying which resulted in a bolt being worn down. Might have been catastrophic if I drove the country twice, but it did make it over 2000 miles with 100-200 pounds so I only downgraded one star to 4. Overall it is satisfactory quality for the price. I wouldn't call it heavy duty but for local moves only or light cross country loads with the caveat you better watch it. I tied a rope to my roof rack to minimize side to side swaying on bumps. Welds held. Will need to replace a bolt and see how I can get a product to raise it higher on my SUV for the future. If you don't have a high truck, I do suggest buying one of those Curt raisers. Overall I am happy with the purchase so far. Pros: promptly delivered, well packaged, new item, side rails are taller than other products, many positive reviews, reasonably inexpensive, I drove around town with it on in the flat position and had absolutely zero issues, no rattle even without stabilizer I could hear, hardware seems adequate (contrary to reviews on here), I didn't get any defects in manufacturing I'm aware of, overall initial quality seems fair for the price Cons: no directions, came with several parts it doesn't seem like are needed, not able to figure out how it folds up so far, brand on the box and the item is different than what is shown on Amazon, general Chinese sketchiness such as no directions and some very negative reviews, install video isn't close up, have to use your intuition, will need a socket wrench to take it off, install is much easier with two people, does scratch easily and may rust easily to people's point on here, doesn't seem like the 400 pound limit is probably accurate (I don't plan on putting more than 100-200) ... show more

I saw some reviews indicating this was hard to assemble, but from my perspective, if you're used to assembling furniture (IKEA type), this is way simpler, though the screws and parts are larger. I had it fully assembled in 30 minutes including the time it took to remove it from the box. There are some very hefty zip ties holding certain parts securely in the box, so make sure you have some tin snips, spade-type wire cutters or very heavy duty scissors available. I used a wire cutter. I bought this for an all-arounder, to use as a trailer when I didn't need a full trailer. It can fit a 21" snowblower, and you can maneuver things to get a lawnmower on there too. 2 days after I received it, I hauled 380 lbs of bulk debris using this rack along with a 4x6 elastic net. I piled well over the top of the rails, and even driving on a highway never felt nervous- no odd sounds or shaking. Quick note as well... My son and I were able to stand in the rack without any issue. Because these things are designed to hold distributed weight, you have to either balance yourself (No standing on the edge) or lay down. So that review that complained about the bent parts after standing probably didn't consider the weight distribution. I love the gates and fold flat feature, this one is designed better than the others I examined, and a decent price as well. My only issue is the design of the anti rattle lock nut. They provide an enormous bolt and nut, held in the chamber by a spring... But then you need to screw in from the other side, and put a lock nut over the tip of the bolt as well. A bit of inconvenient extra work to install and remove. I recommend the company looks at how Curt designs their lock mechanism. It's a 3/4" bolt (rather than 1") that goes into a welded nut, and the pressure between the welded nut and external bolt is what keeps the hitch accessory tight, no springs, no extra bolts. However, this issue is a minor inconvenience for an otherwise superior cargo rack. Update 2/5/21: I have hauled multiple loads of debris, brush, and flooring. Also have hauled the old Ariens 21" snowblower, with aggressive spin-outs and bumps with unplowed roads multiple times this winter so far. I do not keep the cargo rack on full time (recommend not doing this due to risk of rust). I have really strained and beat this thing to death, with significant pressure from straps on the cross bars as well. It has not bent or budged. I don't understand why one reviewer was able to bend this with 200 lbs. I have held a max of 380 lbs of debris (see pic), and have had no issues with bending. I have owned pick up trucks all my life but four months ago I sold mine and bought a CX 90 Mazda Phev. I have chickens and ducks and needed someway to haul my feed and my straw.
