I've always heard that to prolong the life of your washing machine, you should keep the lid/door open after using it to let any standing water evaporate. That was no problem with a top-loader; you just left the lid up. But since I upgraded to a front-loader, its been difficult. The door either wants to swing open way too much where it's in the way or closes, which then keeps the water trapped inside.
