    • Easy to Install, Fantastic Temperature Management
Installed this on my Weber Performa charcoal grill this past Sunday. I set up the kettle for indirect cooking, fired up some charcoal in a chimney starter and set the Venom for a temp of 375. Plunked a well seasoned 5lb chicken onto the grill, closed the cover and then let the Venom do it's thing. I'm extremely impressed at how well this device is able to manage temps in my Performa Grill, truly a set it and forget it. When I first put the full load of charcoal in ( I was using my Vortex for this cook) the heat immediately spiked up to almost 600 degrees. I set the Venom to 375 and let the grill settle down. I opened the cover once just before placing my roast chicken on the grill to let out some of the excessive heat. Once that was done, the Venom took over..... Over the entire cook the temp stayed pretty consistent to my set temp of 375. The highest it went to was about 5 to 6 degrees above set temp, with the lowest temps about 10 to 12 degrees below set temp. Very impressive performance considering it was an early spring day in New England with some blustery wind and a cool 50ish degrees. This type of weather can be very challenging for cooking with charcoal. I work in the retail appliance industry and can tell you, most electric stoves will have oven temps that will vary by an average of 10 degrees, gas stoves can vary by as much as 20 or more. So the performance of the Venom was as good if not better than any electric or gas range out there....... Installation was quite simple, there is nothing to drill or screw. No permanent modifications needed at all. I could go back home tonight, remove the Venom and re install the factory ash catcher no problem. The wifi set up was easy enough, just make sure you have your wifi network "key" ready, you will need to input it as part of the set up. Once installed and connected the app ran well, my only complaint, if my phone went into sleep mode it would disconnect from the venom and I'd have to re-connect it before it would allow me to look at the status of the Venom or make changes. I did not use the Venom's food probe for this, my first cook, instead I relied upon my equally high tech and trusted "Meater" wireless temp probe. The app has several "how to" videos that I think are un-necessary and make navigation (at least my initial experience) more confusing that it needs to be. Spider Grill folks.... move the videos to the web site. I'll need to use the app a bit more before being able to really give it a complete review. That said, once set up and connected it did what it needed to do. Over all, I give this two thumbs way way up !! The Venom temperature controller makes cooking with my charcoal gill an absolute pleasure. Now I spend more time on my cooking and less time worrying about the "cook".     • Easy to install and worked very well even on first cook
I have 3 grills and have been eyeing a pellet grill (for slow and lazy cooks) but don't really have the space. I started to see the ads for the venom and my Weber kettle is my least used grill. Pulled the trigger on the Venom. My kettle is probably fifteen plus years and filthy and it was super easy (5 mins max) to install the Venom (I watched the YouTube video first). Had to futz with it to get the app connected (it downloads a firmware update first and that step is not really indicated so I thought it just wasn't connecting). App works great and is stable and the first thing I cooked on it, roast chicken, came out incredible. This replaces an electric slow cooker that was a pain to clean, so I'm looking fwd to getting back into it. ... show more

Coming from a side box stick smoker this seemed way too easy. However, the quality, performance, accuracy and peace of mind is much appreciated. Compared to buying a whole new smoker or combo is able to save a lot of money turning my Weber Kettle into a 4 in one with market options. I’m very impressed with the temperature accuracy and consistency for the thin gauge steel the Weber Kettle is made out of (in comparison to most smokers I’ve owned). I would recommend LavaLock gasket for the lid, as well as heavily consider getting high temperature grommets for the temp probe wires to enter the bottom of the kettle. Major value with this system. I buy a lot of stuff off of Amazon and I don’t usually take the time to write a review. But the spider grill for the Weber kettle is everything it says it is. I’m a 65-year-old woman I had no problem installing it. It works perfectly. There is a pause button so when you take the lid off if you want to do a bunch of stuff, you can pause the fan I’ve cooked so far for three or four hours, I’m gonna try to do all my cook. This is a game changer. There was complaints about it was too hard to put the ash catcher back on. It’s not.. and yes, I change the ash Coach or after every cook, but that’s simple. If you’re thinking about buying it, don’t think anymore get it ... show more

    • Best device for a kettle grill.
Bought one for my 22” Weber kettle and 22” Napoleon kettle grill. Fit perfectly on the Weber and had to drill a few holes for the Napoleon. The app connectivity could definitely be improved as others have mentioned as you have to reconnect the device after every use, but other than that I give it a five star. It holds temperature very steady and converts your basic kettle grill into a modern techie bbq. You maintain the versatility of a long cook smoker and a searing charcoal grill!
