Was concerned when I saw the box arrive without sturdy cardboard to protect contents, but the kettle looked intact and I was pleased with how quickly it heated. While cleaning up, I saw the black plastic piece on the floor below the kettle box I had set on the counter. Didn’t know what it was until I took a closer look at the handle and saw the hole where the part fell off. Ordered replacement and will update review. I received the replacement and have been using it. 5 STARS! Easy to open the lid, the handle is ergonomically more comfortable than my original kettle I had for a number of years, very easy on/off on the heating element, water quickly heats, and it also looks really nice on the counter! Overall this is a great product. It boils water quickly and has a dull reliability which is what I got it for. I bought it during Prime Days and thought to hold off a review until I had put it through its paces. I do not boil water for drinking but I do boil water and other liquids for other things and this so far hasn't skipped a beat. I don't recommend boiling anything but water in it but it's your choice. So far 7 months and no issues for me and still works and looks new. To get it to last try these Pro-Tips! 1. Keep the lid clean and clean the plastic really well to avoid contamination build-up that can cause it to break down prematurely. Since I don't use mine for human consumption I treated the plastic and it looks as good as new. If you plan to use it for human consumption, cleaning the plastic with boiling water works well. 2. Never let it run down too low, I always boil at least half a container. The reason for this is these heating elements are kind of flimsy, and if the water gets too low or runs out somehow and the safety doesn't kick in, or its right on the margin, the heating element gets so hot you wear it out. If you are transferring all the heat into the water, the element doesn't overheat, and will last a good long time. This is true of this item and many like it. It does however take more energy to boil more water, this is true. 3. To clean it you can use a little CLR or the like to clean the pot and clean where it sits on the element and the bottom. Don't use anything too harsh but keeping it clean is key. ... show more

This thing does exactly what it says it does, nothing more and nothing less. But it's great for what it does. Simple and affordable. If this guy dies on me in a few years I'll probably buy the exact one to replace it. Quality is great, looks great despite the cheaper price.
