Description

Soundsulate MLV is the superior solution over other soundproofing alternatives for blocking sound effectively. The very thin and flexible characteristics makes it an excellent choice for a variety of sound control applications without compromising space. It is designed to reduce transmission of airborne noises and vibrations through floors, walls and ceilings. Typical applications include applying over studs, joists or suspended ceilings. It can also be used as an acoustic wrap for machinery, equipment and ductwork.

  • Worked great!
Size: 4' x 25' (100 sf)
Noticed the difference right away. I stapled these on the wall and then added sound panels on top. Worked great.

  • No noticeable difference for vehicle application - Maybe not a fair review
Size: 4' x 25' (100 sf)
I will put the caveat on here that this review is for sound dampening a pickup truck, which is not the original intent of the product. The product could work well in a household application, but I know it did not have much of an effect for my automotive experience. I recently installed this 1lb mass loaded vinyl product on the floor and doors of my Dodge RAM 2500 2004 quad cab pickup truck to enhance sound dampening while driving down the highway. Unfortunately, even when combined with 80 mil noico butyl CLD, I did not achieve results any better than the stock carpet and asphalt dampeners. I removed the old, hardened, stock damping asphalt CLD and replaced it with "superior" butyl. I made sure to cover as much of the floor as possible while making minimal cuts in the MLV, as you can see in the pictures. I also replaced the old carpet with a vinyl floor for easier cleaning. Unfortunately I did not notice any change in the sound levels. I used Decibel X to measure sound damping before and after. I made sure to take the pickup out on a calm day both before and after measurements. Before installation: 54 dB @ idle 60 dB @ 30 mph 64 dB at 60 mph 66 dB @ 70 mph 65 dB @ 40 mph on a dirt road After installation, with 1lb mass loaded vinyl: 56 dB @ idle 59 dB @ 30 mph 65 dB @ 60 mph 66 dB @ 70 mph 67 dB @ 40 mph on dirt road I have to admit, the sound dampening effect was below my expectations. I suppose if you are working on a vehicle without any dampening at all, you would notice a big change. I will say 100 sq ft of 1 lb / sq ft mass loaded vinyl was more than enough for 100% coverage. 36 sq ft of CLD was more than enough to cover about 1/3rd of the metal surfaces underneath the MLV. Another thing to note, if you're considering such an upgrade yourself, I would highly recommend not trying to install your own vinyl flooring. The wrinkles in my vinyl flooring haven't come out and it's been almost a week. The stuff is hard to work with and I screwed up more than once. Overall this project didn't come out like I had hoped. ... show more

  • Works way better than I had hoped!
Size: 4' x 25' (100 sf)
I live in a 1970 building, with 2 x 4 steel stud and party wall with neighbor that is only double 1/2" rock on outside, single 1/2" on my side, fiberglass insulation. I could hear the neighbor constantly when in the bathroom, I could transcribe the conversation if I needed to. At renovation time, I used 3" Rockwool, 1 layer of Soundsulate and 5/8" durock. Wow. I havent heard my neighbor since. The key is in the install. Think of sound like it is water.......wherever there is a hole, sound will travel through. One big hole or a hundred little ones, the volume of transmitted sound will be the same. Go to the Burning River Buys website and read the installation tips, and it will work as intended. The better you install MLV, the better it performs. Caulk and tape all the seams like you are waterproofing. No need to use expensive "acoustic" tape or caulk. Any elastomeric caulk and PVC coated tape will work just fine and save you a lot. This is an excellent value in MLV. Make sure you install with a buddy. At 1lb sq ft, this stuff is heavy. ... show more

  • Nice bass muffler
Size: 4' x 25' (100 sf)
I live in the Bronx and the neighbors below blast music all night till 4a.m...I’ve called cops, left notes, spoke in person, complained to management... I tried all non violent ways to stop the music at inappropriate times...my only other option was to move from my rent stabilized affordable apartment...I did research and found this mlv plus some fiber acoustic pads in my photo...I bought two hundred pounds (2 rolls and the pads) this method muffled the sound bass transmission by like 60-70% atleast...I only now hear like residual bass but bearable to the point where I can sleep....I also turn on my air filter to help drown out any outside noises since I live on a busy street... this mlv is super heavy!!! I first added mlv the added the pads then added the 2nd mlv on top of the pads so that’s 3 layers total to combat this bass...this lifted a huge burden from my life I used to be stressed out about my situation...I would recommend this product but remember layering is the key! ... show more

  • This works great as a sound barrier.
Size: 4' x 25' (100 sf)
Installing a Home theater on my second floor. I decided to add this as an additional barrier. I am soooo happy that I did. The theater is directly above the family room, but it blocks probably at least 20db of noise by itself. I have it coupled with 13in of R15 and 6in of Mineral Wool. You can barely hear the theater when it is cranked. ... show more
