I got the ZBMINIL2 to modify a switch in my house that is wired out to the flood light off my garage. There is no neutral in the light switch box so this was the easier solution then trying to get that wire redone or trying to wire a smart switch up out there that would still get a signal all the way from the house. It works well for this and is small enough to fit in the box with a normal light switch installed too. A few things to be aware of. -It does not work well with light switches that illuminate when the light should be off. I had just reused the switch I had installed here already but I ended up having to switch this out for a normal light switch as it was causing it to not receive commands from the Zigbee hub (Hubitat C7). -The slots where the wires connect are very shallow and extremely close together. I had to trim down the wires I had which could be an issue in the future if I switch this back to a normal light switch only as the wires in this box were already pretty short. The slots are the screw type where you tighten the tiny screw to clamp the wire in and these never really feel that secure. Mine is also installed in a metal box so having exposed wire that close to the edge of a device that might slip out is pretty concerning but the wires don't really move once it is installed so there really isn't any reason for them to work themselves out. ... show more

I'm not crazy about the design. I wish it held a longer wire inside the unit. As it stands, you have to trim the wiring to about 5mm to keep excess wire from hanging out and potentially arcing. Imo it would have been smarter to use a Wago style clamp to secure the wire. It is only rated for 6 amps so keep that in mind. Wiring it in for just a light should be okay. I've got mine wired with a Wyze Floodlight so I can power cycle it (often) without actually being home. Switches are easy to add; just make sure you've got some spare 12/2 first. ... show more

I use these with Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant - I have 6 installed in various switch boxes, inside fluorescent light fixtures, all over the place. They quickly pair to your existing zigbee network and I've had them installed over a year without them dropping off the network. There's 2 minor problems you should look out for, however. 1. The housing is a little bit flimsy. If you press hard enough on the housing, you can trigger the hardware button. And holding the hardware button puts it into pairing mode. On my first install inside a wall box, some of the wires were pressed up against the box and it kept going into pairing mode. Just make sure you have good placement for the relay inside the wall box. 2. Do not let the 2 switch lines short to ground. This can be especially difficult if you have a metal junction box. If they do, you hear a little pop, and the switch functionality of the relay is fried. If this happens, you can still remotely turn the light on and off - you just can't use the local light switch any more. Outside of those problems, I can still recommend these if you're looking to automate your home ... show more

I live in an older house and don't have neutral wire in my switch junction boxes, so I grabbed this to add smart functionality to my dining room light, which has direct wired LED tubes. Note: this is not suitable for a tube fixture that has not been designed or retrofitted for direct wire LEDs, as fluorescent lights are an inductive load and can fry the device when you shut them off. I used a short piece of lamp cord as a jumper between the switch connections and the device. With a little work, I was able to fit it into the shallow 2 gang box that switch is located in.
