  • Seems like nothing more than a money-grab by Bill Amend
Foxtrot ranks right up there with "Calvin & Hobbes", "Pearls Before Swine", and "Dilbert" as one of my favorite comics; in fact, in some categories, it actually surpasses those. So I was really looking forward to receiving this one after my purchase - although I had to wait almost a full month before it got shipped, with no reason ever being given. My disappointment, however, was compounded by the book itself. The overall feel of the strips was that Bill Amend was throwing this one out there because funds are getting low, and he needed something else to generate some revenue. Unfortunately, I fell for the trap, expecting this to be as funny as when he was actually writing full-time. This one falls way short of his other works, and (for some odd reason) I guess he felt like each strip needed some witty caption that "explained" or described the content of the strip. (Example: One strip has the very large caption above the comic "B-Positive"; the strip itself is about Peter's grade on a physics test. Another page has the word "RESOLUTE" above the strip, and the strip is about Roger's New Years resolutions.) These "captions" or whatever they were supposed to be did nothing to ADD to the comics; if anything, they were a huge distraction and semi-revealing about the comic before you even started reading the dialogue. The wittiness and humor of the strips was quite lacking; Bill Amend usually has my sides hurting with laughter when I read his stuff, but this collection just... it really did feel like he was forced into trying to find humor in something. I never, EVER get rid of my comic collections (and I have quite a few), but sadly, this is one that if I ever need to clean out some unwanted books, I'll have no problem ditching it. Just wish I hadn't wasted my money on it. Huge disappointment. ... show more

  • Warning: Sunday strips only
Unlike the older collections, which include the daily strips, this includes only Sunday strips, and there is only one per page. Also, the unnecessary caption on each strip adds nothing and just distracts from the comics. The strips themselves are still fun, but the book just feels like a rip-off.

  • a funny and relevant comic
As always, a funny and relevant comic. Some of the comics were a little edgier than previous books.

  • What's not to love? Except
What's not to love? Except, I wish there was more strips in the book to enjoy. That's hard to do with Sundays-only strips though.
