I purchased two of these, one for the front door and one for the back door on my mother's mobile home. It was so easy to install that I thought maybe I did it wrong. I went back through the instructions again just to be sure. I got the 2020 3rd gen doorbell. All I had to do was plug in the solar charger, so make sure you have the right solar charger for your doorbell because the other doorbell models you have to use the wires. So I just screwed the solar charger into the house, plugged the doorbell in (set the doorbell up with the app inside the house first), then screwed the doorbell in. So easy! It has been keeping my mom's doorbells charged between 70 and 80%. Factors that affect battery life include the amount of sunlight you get and the settings on the doorbell itself. We had three weeks of rain and no problem. I live in Florida, so there was still plenty of sunshine in between. The front door gets the full unobstructed east sun and the back door gets the full unobstructed west sun (i.e. there are no trees or buildings close to the house to cause shade on the solar panels). How sensitive the motion detection is, video capture length, how often you are taking screenshots and other settings on the camera itself will dramatically affect battery usage. I have mine turned up pretty high. I need to catch as many events as possible because my parents are in their 90s and I need to keep an eye on them. For the first month, I just kept checking the device health to keep an eye on and adjust the settings as needed so I could stay above 70% battery life. I probably don't need to say this, you need to buy a doorbell with a battery in it. ;) Also, for a solid 15 minutes I thought I lost the secret doorbell screws, they are jammed into the tiny pocket in the cardboard! ... show more

The micro usb connector broke literally the first time I had to unplug it. And now it doesn't charge my ring unit. Super disappointed, CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! DO NOT BUY!

Installation was quick and easy, used 2 existing holes from doorbell mount with 2 new holes to install solar charger, then the doorbell back on with 4 new screws… after re-boot, my app recognizes as having solar charger!

I have a covered front porch and didn't know how well this would work since I don't get direct sunlight on the porch. It works though! It must get enough at certain points even in the shade that it still recharges itself. It keeps my doorbell around 77% pretty consistently. My doorbell needed to be charged monthly before this. I've had this about a month and it's still going strong. We will see how well it does in the winter months with our very cold winters. Hopefully the same as the summer. Most solar ring chargers look un Attractive I have the brown model this matches and I haven’t charged it manually since I installed it and believe me it’s a pain yo charge unscrew re-screw once a month! When the fires happened it did get really low I believe it was the smoke and then the dust covering the solar area so make sure to clean it if it’s dusty in your area. ... show more
