Description

The Snugpak Special Forces Bivvi Bag provides protection from the elements year round with its completely waterproof construction. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is equipped with a center half-length zip and is wider at the chest than the original Bivvi Bag. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is also best suited for use with the Softie Antarctica or the Special Forces System. You can carry the bivvi bag on its own for emergencies, use it with a sleep system for wild camping, or with a sleeping bag and air mat for planned camping trips. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is made of Paratex Dry fabric, a completely waterproof, durable, lightweight protective shell that is designed to keep out the elements. Paratex Dry is also windproof, which traps heat inside the bag with you to keep you warm and prevents cold air from entering the bag. Take care to not completely seal the Special Forces Bivvi Bag, because although it is breathable and wicks moisture out of the bag, sufficient air to sustain breathing cannot pass through the fabric. Water vapor from within the bag is transferred chemically to the outside of the bag due to the polyurethane coating to keep you warm and dry. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag comes with its own stuff sack and packs down to a travel-friendly 6 by 4 inches; weighs only 12 ounces. The water repellent feature of this bag can be maintained by a cool tumble dry after washing and periodic treatment with suitable water repellent products. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag is 90 inches long and 33 inches wide so that it can fit over your sleeping bag as a protective outer shell. The Special Forces Bivvi Bag will ensure you are equipped for emergency situations and will remain dry and warm even in the most unexpected weather conditions.

  • It works
Color: Olive
I bought this as a Company Commander looking to decrease my clothing record and the weight in my ruck sack. I did try to fit it with my jungle bag's stuff sack with the stuff sack, so that I'd only have to bring one bag. It was hard to do and was not able to fully sinch down. Carrying the two small bags occupies exponentially less space and weight in my ruck, I just couldn't fit them together in one bag like the issued sleep system. End state met and a major benefit over the larger issued system. Jungle bag also has the zipper on the side so just takes a few dry runs to get used to getting out quickly. ... show more

  • Great Bivvy bag for cowboy camping
Color: Black
The bivvy bag is well made and light weight compared to the military bivvy bag I am use to. The price is at it's lowest from what I have seen in a long time at $145.63 with tax and delivery. The only issue or design flaw is the draw string at the head of the bag. It does not close properly or easily. I had to pop two new holes and re-route the cord to close it properly and more easily. Once I made that modification the bivvy bag worked fine. The zipper moves easily. I can fit my top quilt into the bag and then slide myself in fairly easy. You can use the bivvy as a floor liner under your air mattress on hot days. The bivvy and stuff sack weigh 332g or 11.7oz. Bivvy stuff sack has a nice design with a Velcro handle to pull out easily from inside your bag or use the Velcro handle to secure the bag on the outside of your pack. Highly recommend this bivvy sack. ... show more

  • Fine lightweight backup bivy; however this is a poor choice for tall users and there are much less expensive alternatives.
Color: Olive
Beware tall users! This is advertised as 220 cm in length (86.6"); however, this is laying flat (as pictured). In order for this to work as a true bivy you have to cinch down the cord that runs around the inside of the bivy's hood. This dramatically reduces the interior length, so much so that my long length mountain hardwear sleeping bag is longer than the bivy sack when the hood is cinched down. Therefore I am unable to use the bivy sack as it is intended with the cord cinched down around my head and sleeping bag hood (think how a mummy bag cinches around your face). Instead the entire top of my sleeping bag is left unprotected. This would be fine if I was using the bivy in a tent, but I purchased the bivy to allow me to sleep outdoors while providing at least moderate protection from moisture and rain. The restricted length makes this impractical. I also don't like how thin and fragile the material is. I understand that this is necessary to achieve the bivy's light weight, but a ground sheet will be required to prevent sharp rocks and sticks from cutting or rubbing through the thin bivy. Instead I find myself using my MSS woodland camo bivy (a full pound heavier) which I intended to replace with this lightweight alternative. The MSS bivy provides plenty of extra length so that I can fit excess gear or clothing that I want to keep dry down by my feet. In addition, the MSS bivy's gore tex fabric breathes better and is far more robust. I find there is less condensation in the MSS bivy after a night's sleep, even with the MSS fully closed and the snugpak wide open at the head. Finally, a brand new MSS bivy can be found for one third the price of this bivy. The one pound weight savings is outweighed in my mind by the benefits of the added length, durability, and comfort of my MSS bivy. Final Thoughts: This is great as a lightweight emergency cover for your sleeping bag (if you're 6'00" or under); however for regular use there are better options out there (check out the MSS bivy which can be purchased new for one third the price). ... show more

  • pure quality
Color: Coyote
love the material. completely waterproof. 0% breathable. which i was expecting. size is perfect for a insulated pad and 2 sleeping bags. zipper constantly wants to zip down so i'll have to stick a bit of velcro that i have around and it should be good to go. understandable why it's there; for faster escapes from your bag but for convenience sake, i'll put a bit of velcro at the top as a stopper. 10/10 from me. feels durable. snugpak makes great products. ... show more

  • Stuff sack had ripped seams
Color: Olive
The stuff sack had two rips in the seem along the side with mesh material. One rip was next to the small velcro handle. If I were to use the handle as intended that rip would become bigger. I have absolutely no doubt that packing the bivvy bag into the stuff sack a couple of times would open the rips completely rendering it unserviceable. I have no confidence in the craftsmanship of the bivvy bag if the stuff sack is ripped open and unusable upon arrival. Also, I do not recommend this bivvy bag for anyone with a large frame. It’s fairly narrow. If you wear XL or even L clothing garments this bivvy may not fit your shoulders and torso. I wear L or XL shirts and jackets and I could barely get both my arms crammed into the bag. This is while I was wearing a t-shirt. Zero chance I could fit any insulating layers in there with me. ... show more

  • Me, I'm ambivalent
Color: Black
Owned one before that seems of better quality. It kept me dry and was pretty breathable for a bivvy. No straps for sleeping pad, no bug net, less durable than, for example OR helium which costs like 35 dollars more and comes with 20k water resist and headroom (if using pole or tying to ridge line under tarp. The stitching on this new snugpak bivvy is pretty crap. Long ends unfinished near top of zipper and less than straightm it is fully zipped and super light but for the money I'm dissatisfied. Sending this back and picking up a new or helium to replace it with even though I always bivvy under a tarp. ... show more
