This is the 2nd SmittyBilt winch I've owned. I sold my Jeep and left the first winch on it. I liked it so well, I didn't hesitate to buy this one for my Gladiator. For the features this winch has and the capability of it, I can't find another winch in this price point that compares to it. It's an excellent winch with a mid-range, budget friendly price point. SmittyBilt Gen 3 winches carry a lifetime mechanical warranty and a 5-year electrical warranty so nothing to be scared of there. I think the closest competitor to this winch is the Badlands Apex, which seems like a solid winch for the money coming in slightly lower in price than the SB but the Badlands winch only comes with a 90 day warranty according the HF's website. The SmittyBilt Gen 3 winch is ready to go right out of the box, just wire it up, bolt it up and go. The controller works well wired or wirelessly. It checks all the boxes for me. I recently installed the Smittybilt Gen 3 12K winch on my 2023 Jeep Gladiator using a JCR winch plate, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This winch has proven itself to be a reliable and powerful recovery tool. The 12,000 lb pulling capacity handles my Jeep and all my off-road gear with ease, and it hasn’t struggled even in tough recovery scenarios. The combination of the Smittybilt Gen 3 and the JCR winch plate was straightforward to install, with no compatibility issues. The winch’s faster line speed and the wireless remote have made a noticeable difference during recoveries—saving both time and hassle. The build quality feels solid, and it’s clear that this winch is designed to take a beating in rugged conditions. Installation wasn’t bad at all. Got it for a descent price. Build quality seems really good. I bought this to replace a Traveller 12,000# winch from Tractor Supply, and this is a beast compared to it! I use my winches for tree work, and I did a single line pull, and had a tree that was about 8 inches diameter snap off about a foot and a half from the ground without a struggle. I try to get roots and all but it didn’t fair so well that time. It seems to reel in at about twice the speed of the TS winch. Hopefully, with the forged gears this one holds up to my torture. Pretty good looking winch, with an illuminated bar on the front of the control box, along with a wireless/wired remote. The hook is pretty big also. The synthetic rope is very light and easy to work with. The cables are a little short, so if you have over about 6’ to go you’ll need to get different wires, but overall I love it so far! They could improve it with a led bar over the spool. Night time work you have to use the integrated flashlight to see the spool. ... show more

I've been offroading for decades and as much as I love Warn or Milemarker products, the price can be a bit steep for rigs/users who only casually use them. This would be my third Smittybilt I've bought and installed (all the others are still working good too) on one of my rigs and I've VERY impressed. Always works like it should, never has issues, and the price can't be beat. Would highly recommend one, and the next time I need one for another rig, I'll definitely be buying this again. ... show more

I was honestly quite surprised when I was able to order this winch here for cheaper than the actual smittybilt website AND it included everything. The controller is a bit bulky design but works just fine wireless or plugged in. I haven’t had to use it on any trails yet but I have played around with it. ... show more

    • I am mounting it on a cradle to put in either the front or back hitch positions.
Great looking HD winch that easily mounted in the SB cradle. I will use it for front and rear positions and could not find cable harnesses on line so am building them. It would be nice if there were cable accessories to do this.

More solid than Badlands Apex. Don’t know if it’s worth 830 bucks but if you can get it for the same price or cheaper than Badlands Apex it’s much better built imo. Warranty is what won me over and smittybilt makes great products. 3rd winch from them and they haven’t let me down yet.
