  • Rhis proves my opinion of the Big Bang Theory
Color: Black/Blue
One star is the lowest rating a vailable. What a shame. This thing is junk! The stars are only unfocused blobs. The room must be pitch dark in order to see what is projected. Rhe only way I could see it was by going into a windowless room and turning off the light. In a normally dark room ambient light would completely wash it out. The stand is so cheaply made that it won't hold the projector much less keep it aimed. I can't believe the Smithsonian allowed them to use their name on something this pitiful! ... show more

  • Don't waste your money
Color: Black/Blue
This item is garbage. At $30+ ($55 as of 12/26) you expect a high quality projector, similar to the many holiday projectors people have outside their houses these days. This project is not that. Nowhere close. The "stars" are projected from a single blue LED light. You have to have the thing within 4 feet of a wall or ceiling for them to show up clear. Anything farther away and they appear blurry. And the images, the box says "HD" hahahha. The images are on old school slides that go into the bottom of the machine. Same thing here, unless you are within 4 ft of the wall the images are blurry and not worth the time. I have purchased Smithsonian branded products for my son before and he has loved them. Someone clearly dropped the ball when putting the Smithsonian brand on this product. Overpriced slideshow. And not a good one at that. ... show more

  • Prefect for what I wanted it to do!
Color: Black/Blue
I really liked how it was easy to put together, the timer goes for 15 mins which is perfect for my 3 year old son. He loves the earth that is pictured here. It has a focus to easily make the planet clear. It takes 4 AA batteries, which is great for moving it to whatever side of the room I want it on. The stars kindof generic but he loves when the rotate. This is the prefect gift for my autistic son that loves the solar system, we pick what planet he wants to look at every night. ... show more

  • Disappointed 8 year old
Color: Black/Blue
I thought this would be the perfect gift for my 8 yr old grand daughter who is becoming very explorative. Her dad takes her to museums and other interesting and educational places, and she travels with her Mom sometimes when she travels to other countries. She is a very smart child. So I decided to get her something different for Christmas 2016 and I decided on this. By having the name Smithsonian I figured it would be a very nice projector. NOT! My daughter said she put the batteries in and it stayed on for about 3 minutes. 3 minutes? Yes and I was appalled. Not only was I angered about the fact that it wouldn't stay on but my granddaughter wanted to take it to show and tell and she cannot. Did you ever think that when you are making items for kids at least make sure they work. I don't like disappointing kids but apparently you do not care. I should have read the reviews before buying but I failed to do so simply because it was branded "Smithsonian". Someone called it a piece of junk and I am inclined to agree. ... show more

  • I hatched a bunch of WATER FLEAS!
Color: Sea Monsters
It's an interesting kit. I followed the directions, did everything it said. At first, I thought it wasn't working. It took longer than it said before I saw any action. Finally, I noticed some teensy swimming things. I figured, at last! My triops have hatched! But, about two weeks later, they haven't grown at all. So I pull out the old microscope (a really great one from my school days) and proceeded to do a thorough examination. After about twenty or so minutes of microscopic inspection and internet searches, I became convinced that what I had hatched was not, in fact, triops cancriformis, but a species of WATER FLEA! Now, I'm in love with pretty much all microscopic organisms, so this wasn't exactly an unwanted result; but it was unwarranted, and not what I'd bargained for. I did notice that there does appear (now) to be one or two actual juvenile triops in there; but I'm thinking the water fleas may end up eating them. So, I'm giving it two stars because, while SOMETHING hatched, it wasn't at all as advertised. ... show more

  • read the reviews before you buy!!
Color: Black/Blue
This is awful. Not at all what I expected. The stars are blue dots. Not stars. The planets don't rotate. It's battery powered. This is not a smithsonian grade product. Very disappointed.

  • Hatch under warm light! It will work!
Color: Sea Monsters
I bought despite all of the negative reviews. You should too. I simply googled how to best hatch them and quickly found out that they do best when you leave them under a warm light round the clock for the first couple of days to stay warm. It worked! Ours started hatching this evening and the kit was just delivered yesterday! I put in the window today because it was sunny and under the stove light this evening. We have about 5 little hatchlings buzzing around and my kids are pumped! I let them assemble the kit (they are 3&4) so pretty much anyone can accomplish this! ... show more

  • So Cool!
Color: Sea Monsters
These were amazing! At first there were about 5 or 6 Triops and around 15 little shrimps.. Shelly (our only surviving Triop) decided to eat all the other critters, and he lived for about 6 months. He got huge! I bought a medium sized plastic aquarium for him, and kept a small lamp over it 24/7 (covering it with a towel every night). I got some playsand from a neighbor and rinsed it very well with bottled water and put a good 2 inches or so in the bottom of the tank. I gave him a quarter of a peeled cherry tomato everyday, along with a small pinch of fish flakes and a small pinch of freezedried bloodworms. I've tried the other brands of Triops, but this one was the best! ... show more
