Description

Nurseymen have known for over thirty years that smart pots grow better plants because of the fabric used in their construction. The tough, long lasting smart pot material has just the right amount of porosity to promote air root pruning, excellent drainage and allow excess heat to escape, producing superior plants. The patented soft-sided containers last for years, even in the harshest winters and are excellent for growing the widest variety of container or potted plants. A healthy, well-established root system is key to overall growth and smart pots provide roots with an ideal environment, allowing them to thrive and develop to their full potential. Vegetables, flowers, herbs and fruits all do well in smart pots. Smart pots are the horticulturist-Feets first choice for container gardening.

  • These work as advertised and plants seem to like them a lot!!!
Size: 5-Gallon Color: 5 Gallon
After going through several reviews, videos and recommendations from friends, I have gone ahead and purchased few of these Smart Pots to do some R&D and some beta-testing :) These smart pots work and plants seem to like growing in them a lot. I have gotten 2 5-Gal pots and planted a tomato plant in each and at the same time planted couple of tomato plants on the ground. I have used a signature blend potting soil from a local landscaping store with lots of useful stuff in them as that was much cheaper than buying from bigger B&M stores. The ones in the smart pots both have gotten very big and started fruiting, while the ones in the ground have not grown as big and only one of them have started bearing fruit while all of them had the same kind of soil. I also observed the roots at the bottom of the tomato plants within 3 weeks and that shows the healthy root growth of the plant. These smart pots kind of air prune the roots so that the roots are confined and are not out grown crazily outside the pot. I occasionally move the pots from one location to another so as to not attract any kind of bugs under the pot. See the attached pics to see the difference in the growth b/w ground vs Smart Pot As some reviewer suggested, getting bigger pots will definitely help. I would not go anything below 5 Gal and would use 5 Gals for smaller plants and 10G or bigger for the tomato plants or any other vegetable plants that link to have deep roots. These Smart Pots seem to be made of some kind of polyester material that are kind of fibrous that have several air pores. Surprisingly, I found a similar material used as a lining in my Honda Civic's Trunk. I am also doing some research and exploration using big fabric shopping bags as Pots vs Smart Pots for growing plants. I will come back to post my research. Otherwise these smart pots work as advertised. These smart ... show more

  • Smartpots for the gardening win!
Size: 15-Gallon Color: Black
My whole garden is smartpotted. I use an assortment of sizes depending on what I'm planting. 7 gl. for herbs and my young 1-2yr old dwarf blueberries, 15 and 20 gl for potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini. No matter what you want to grow there's a smartpot for that! Save yourself the aggravation of plastic and also your plants will thank you, get breathable pots like the original smartpot. 10+ years of use no kidding ... show more

  • Great Pots of Size
Size: 45-Gallon Color: Tan
Why on earth would you need 45 gallon pots? To grow dwarf crepe myrtles!! I ordered two of these huge pots for my trees. After looking at them, they would make great gardens, too. You could plant several squash plants, along with some cucumbers and maybe a tomato plant or two. I placed some flower seeds around one crepe myrtle and they are growing very quickly, too. These pots do take a lot of soil. I use Miracle Grow Garden Soil, and each bag is .75 cubic feet of soil. I placed 7 bags in each pot but they could have held one or two more bags easily. The good thing about these pots is that they will conform to the amount of soil you use. Use less, and just have a deeper rim around it. You could fold it over, I guess. They look nice, too. AND, if you were to buy a rigid pot or planter this size, you would have to pay big bucks!! These are very reasonable. I highly recommend these pots if you need a lot of soil for a tree or small garden. ... show more

  • I have the proof I need and I will be getting more.
Size: 45-Gallon Color: Black
I planted one tomato plant in this pot and another in the ground next to it. After thoroughly preparing the soil in the pot and in the ground and after a month of growth the plant in the pot is three times as big as the one in the ground and has twice as many baby tomatoes on it. For me the proof is in the results. Next year I will be adding more of these to my garden. Construction is solid and the price is right. Highly recommended. Updating to show a mid summer picture. There are two tomato plants, same variety and the one in the foreground is planted in the ground and the mammoth one in the smart pot is in the background. So far it looks as though the Smart Pot is proving to be a brilliant idea. ... show more

  • gave it a good watering, and kept it inside
Size: 15-Gallon Color: Black
I ordered this the day I went to home depot and bought an organic tomato plant without doing any research first. When I got it home and did the research I learned that the type of tomatoes I bought required a very large pot, and that these fabric pots help prevent the roots from wrapping around the pot and choking itself out. I ordered this, and left my tomatoes outside in the pot they were bought until it came. When I went outside to grab the tomatoes, they were wilted and half dead looking! I repotted it immediately into this pot, gave it a good watering, and kept it inside. Today, the very next day, it's looking completely back to life! I didn't realize when I bought this how big the pot would actually be, so I decided to make my own salsa garden inside, and planted a small jalapeño seedling, and a couple of cilantro seeds as well. I'm hoping that this will create some competition and get things growing! We'll see if they make it. So far I'm impressed. I love the light weight and easy transportability. I'm now thinking of ordering another one and planting a dwarf meyer lemon tree! ... show more

  • The best
Size: 10-Gallon Color: Black
They may be expensive but smart pots will last a very long time. You'll be saving money in the long run and have bigger plants. Air pots allow the roots to breath and the fabric lets the root ball grow to its fullest potential by air pruning roots, when the root hits air through the fabric it causes that root to die back and then you'll get a massive explosion of root growth just without root swerl like you get with plastic pots, then root bound and health of plant starts getting bad. Smart Pots are the way to grow. ... show more

  • Be aware.
Size: 7-Gallon Color: Black
Very disappointed. I purchased two 7 gallon pots and planted a different tomato variety in each. One was a large healthy plant and the other was a much smaller healthy plant. I also used a different soil in each pot. The smaller plant did not thrive at all and I replaced that plant with a larger one. Within two weeks both plants started to die. Other vegetables I planted in large plastic pots with the same soils are thriving. The only commonality between the tomatoes were these Smart Pots. My little garden is outside on a sunny low wall. I would never buy these again. ... show more
