  • Fantastic Quality
I just picked this up on black friday. I've put it on a smallrig cage for a BMPCC 6K Pro. You will need to use underside rails (like for a v-mount setup) if you want to mount this on the right-hand side of that camera. The included rail setup won't reach the lens. I'm sure it works fine for the left-hand side, but I already have a handle mounted there. In any case, it works great. The action is very smooth, the wood-grain is nice and matches my wood-grain smallrig handles. The white marking ring does feel like cheap plastic like people have mentioned, but it's intended to be used with dry-erase markers for color-coding your focus positions, so shiny white plastic is perfect for that. If you don't like it, you can just pop it off instead for a cleaner black and wood look. The articulation of the configuration is impressive, and it all holds together well when tightened. If you're on a budget, the smallrig mini FF is usually around half the cost of this one, I just splurged to keep my wood-grain aesthetic going. Basically this is a quality product and the only downside is the price. Get it on sale if you can! ... show more

  • Well made follow focus that simply works
While its not an arri ff4 the quality is honestly pretty good. Stays firmly in place all day and is decently responsive. The packaging is excellent and pristine for a small rig product. The wooden knob is a nice touch but doesn't really add anything outside of aesthetics. Plenty of included rigging options including gear straps for the pitched gears, and a really interesting rubber wheel that lets you pull focus without the gear straps on a dslr lens. ... show more

  • Palm rest mount threads.
I had asked the question here on Amazon if the palm rest mount screw thread was 1/4in 20, the common tripod accessory mounting thread size. Both an individual and SmallRig Customer Service reported that as being correct. Unless they got a different variant of the device, I can't understand how they could both be so completely wrong in their answers. The threading appears to be metric 0.8, and looks nowhere close to the other 1/4in 20 threads on other screws in the kit. (See picture) Otherwise, excellent unit. Would be nice if the palm rest used a more common thread so it could mounted in other places. Heck, they could probably sell it on it's own that way. ... show more

  • Lightweight and easy to mount
Maybe a little too light? Not sure how it will wear over time. This is the backup to my wireless follow focus so maybe it's good enough. Time will tell.

  • Beautiful FF
I wanted the Vocas follow focus for years and this one was more in my price range. Some plastic bits here and there, but mostly feels very hefty with a good deal of metal. The hand rest is excellent, as is the ease of adjustability and customization. Really great features, I'm very impressed.

  • A well-designed and elegant follow focus.
This unit is replacing a cheaper/cheapo follow focus and it's a huge step up in every way. The materials and craftsmanship are top notch, as I've come to expect from all my (numerous pieces of) Smallrig gear. I use this on my cinema camera rig with my geared cinema lenses, as well as vintage glass that's had gears added. All the little features and functions are proof that the folks that design these things are folks who use these tools themselves and/or listen to those who do. The fact that this can interface with other standard accessories (gear rings and whips) to make it even more versatile/useful is a big plus for me as well. My only two (very small) gripes are a general lack of instructions (but, YouTube exists) and that I might actually prefer a rubber grip knob to the wooden one. Wooden parts on a camera rig feels a little... precious and dated in 2023? That said, the wood quality and finish on the wooden knob is very, very nice, and it does look quite sharp. Obviously, this is prosumer-level gear and obscenely expensive professional units and other options with wireless capability and more features do exist, but for my humble purposes as a one-man video producer and filmmaker, I can't see needing to upgrade this for a long time, if ever. If I lost this tomorrow, I'd buy another one. ... show more

  • My first Follow Focus unit and now I'm spoiled!
I ordered this Follow Focus kit to use with my Canon 50mm f/.95 dream lens on my R5 for video. Since it is my first, it took me a total of about 45 minutes to get it set up on my tripod just right. But once it was up there, manwas it a joy to use. First of all this is SmallRig, so the materials, the fit, and the finish are fantastic. While it is on the lower end of follow focus units, it is a great set-up for a beginner. So smooth, with some options like a controllable dampening system to allow for more or less friction while focusing. I liked the focus wheel, it was very smooth and quite helpful with all the markers. As this was just a test run, I used my camera's LCD, but I think I will need to get an external monitor in order to get more accuracy on my focusing. There were not any basic instructions, so I had to watch a few you tubes in order to familiarize myself with the pieces and learned that I don't have to use the belts that are included, I just went with the friction wheel. Nice! and it fit my vintage lens perfectly. I like the compact nature of the unit plus I like that it came with an attachment rail that fit perfectly on my smallrig cage. Nice to see the pieces of the ecosystem work so nicely together. All in all, I will need some practice with this system but it integrates nicely, has a few helpful innovations, and works well! ... show more

  • Like very much but one of the rotation stops is broken.
Don’t use rotation stops much so will keep and use product as-is. 😟
