    • Works as advertised but be mindful of cylinder setting
Works great but the instructions aren’t super clear about how to set the timing setting on the device with respect to your engine configuration. If you are wiring this to the IGNITION COIL WIRE then you can follow the instructions. For instance, a V8 engine will spark eight times per single revolution of the crank at the coil (set to 8p1r on the device). For a four cylinder engine that would be 4p1r because that’s 4 sparks per crank rotation. If you are wiring to a SINGLE SPARK PLUG WIRE then that’s firing once per single revolution (1p1r) for any number of cylinders on a standard 4 stroke engine (standard car engine). I have a similar product that is still going strong after twenty years so I bought this one without checking the reviews figuring it uses well established technology. The rpm output on the one I got is erratic as I can see, after reading the reviews belatedly, is all too common.

Alright so I measured this against a precise RPM timing tool, and I would say it’s pretty good to have an idea where your RPM’s are at on the road, but I wouldn’t be doing any idle adjustments with it, as with my tests it seemed the RPM’s were -/+ 5% of the actual value, which isn’t honestly that bad for the price. It just means when you hit a RPM limit of 6,000, it’ll probably read 6,288 or something similar! ... show more

The Item was exactly as described in the advertisement. The tachometer works great. The video was very helpful as well. The only difficulty that I had with the install was with trying to zip-tie the 5 cable wraps with the supplied zip ties. They were too short for my application. I opted for a larger zip-tie as it was a bit more forgiving. I like the product and purchased a second one to have on hand as I permanently mounted the first one to my lawnmower. ... show more

This is a great little tachometer for a single cylinder engine such as a Briggs OHV or Clone engine. To get an accurate reading you'll need to set the spark setting to the "2P1r" setting, which I believe that stands for 2 sparks for every 1 revolution. I know that sounds backwards, but if you think about a 4-stroke engine, it sparks every other revolution. But with the ignition system on these engines, every time the flywheel makes one revolution, it passes the coil and creates a spark. That would be great if this were a 2-stroke engine, but it's not. Trust me, this is how you'll get an accurate reading with this tach on this type of engine. ... show more
