  • One of a Kind
This is a highly specialized camera...and if you use it the way it was designed to be used, it will blow you away with its image quality. It's not a traditional "point-and-shoot". It's a very slow camera, and, from my perspective, was designed to be used on a tripod. This camera does not do well at higher ISOs...but at low ISO, the image quality is incredible. The depth of color and contrast rivals any DSLR I've used, including the Nikon D810. The auto focus is slow and abominably inaccurate in low light. But this isn't meant to be a low-light camera. It's not a Sony A7s. And it's also not designed to track fast-moving objects. For me, this camera is a gift from heaven for taking portraits on a tripod in adequate light. The 50mm focal length (full-frame equivalent of 75mm) is great for portraiture...and I purchased the conversion lens which stretches the focal length out to a full-frame equivalent of 90mm, without sacrificing any image quality. The maximum aperture of f/2.8 produces a crisply thin DOF and is capable of giving you a classic 3 dimensional look with the subject jumping out from a smooth and pleasant (re: non-nervous) out-of-focus background. Even though this camera does a breathtakingly good job at rendering deep, rich color, it is surprisingly good at black and white photography as well. The rich contrast and clarity provides you with stunningly crisp black and white imagery. While auto-focus is almost hilariously slow, in good light it's extremely accurate. Manually focusing is very easy, with the LCD giving you an accurate portrayal of the scene. I purchased the LCD viewfinder which definitely aids in giving those of us with less than perfect vision a more comfortable and clear view of the LCD display. I highly recommend getting the optional LCD viewfinder. If you enjoy taking your time to really work the scene, you'll love this camera. ... show more

  • Nice Sigma Camera but did not know it was Grey Market
Great Camera until dust came into contact with Sensor, then Sigma USA said my Serial number was not a US Camera. I knew the warranty had expired per description but was lead to believe this was a US market camera.

  • Ridiculously great camera in sunlight
A few years ago I bought and returned a foveon based camera because of poor performance. Still tthe image quality left an impression. When I saw this offering with a longer reach, I decided to bite. Boy am I glad. First off the performance (focusing speed, focus accuracy, rapidity of taking repeat shots) is superb, no idea why any doubts are being cast. Note I have only used the latest firmware and a very fast SanDisk card. For e.g it is faster than the rx1r and x100t as far as I can tell. The photos it produces are simply put astounding. I took my rx1r and this DP3 on a trip. Processed the fullframe pics first and was very pleased -- ended up with about a 50 percent keeper rate (I tend to take a lot of shots) When I next checked the dp3 pics, I could not bring myself to discard anything. Cropping up to 100 pecent still left photos nearly pristine. Yes I only shot at 100iso in sunlight but for what you get, I would say the dp3 is a must have. Zero complaints from me. Also the user experience and interface are fantastic. Edit: Nearly 3 years later I still have not found another camera whose pictures are as captivating. The ancient original Fuji x100 ‘s pics while very different provided a similar visual delight. I also use the ft-1201 conversion lens and lvf-01 viewfinder — despite making the setup bulky and odd looking, these are well worth having. I never expected when I originally purchased this monstrous looking (with lvf and hood) camera that it would remain my favorite instrument years later despite its limitations. ... show more

  • My favorite camera of the dp quattro line
I do a lot of floral photos in the spring and summer, this is my go to unit. The dp 3 Quattro can focus very close in its macro mode. The colors it reproduces are second to none. Do be aware this is not a fast camera, it works best on a tripod. I shot mostly in manual mode to control the depth of field. When you switch it to black and white it really shines. This is not a good starter camera, it demands a lot out of you , but really delivers in performance. Sigma offers a viewfinder for the which really helps.in the field, very expensive for what it is but worth every penny. This a terrible camera for sports, kids, anything that moves, but for stationary subjects on a tripod it is unbeatable. I wish i had found this camera many years ago I could have saved a lot of money buying other cameras. I have a dpQ0 and a dp Q2 also these are very specialized camera, each has its own use. ... show more
