    • Great shredder, but what is that glue-like substance?

This shredder does the job very well. The shredded paper is really small, almost like confetti. The noise is loud, but I have yet to find a quiet unit on the market. But what the heck is that residual glue left on the unit after I removed the protective wrapping tape? Everything sticks to it: the shredded paper, my fingers....... everything. It won't come off. It's all along the top edge on one end of the basket and the plastic casing of the motor assembly. I tried soap, rubbing alcohol and even nail polish remover to rub it off, but the cotton ball, cloths and whatever I use to dab at it just adheres to the glue. And it's extremely difficult to wash off my hands too. I took off one star from my rating due to the aggravation this is causing me. ... show more

Just read the booklet carefully and you should be fine. I like this since it is small and works for what I need. If you are doing more heavy duty shredding it may not suit you, but for the occasional bit of shredding to be safe, it is a great product.

Wanted to leave my review because my study of the reviews for this product convinced me to purchase it. It is the perfect size for home use. Here are some pluses: it cross-cuts instead of the usual strips, there is a window in the bin to show when it is full, the bin is easy to empty into a small-sized trash bag, and even though the bin is small you can shred a surprisingly large number of sheets before it fills. This shredder should be shredded by a shredder that works. Not worth your money..really. Look elsewhere. Plus, the customer service was in no way helpful, forget it..they don’t care. What went wrong you may ask, well..it does NOT take more than 2 sheets of paper..you pretty much have to preshred to get envelope thickness to feed through. Also, it heats up fast & stops..then you must wait 40 minutes to restart..unproductive, unless you have no more than 10 sheets of paper, kinda defeats its own purpose. THEN, the top slide switch stopped clicking into positions..no reverse, no off - had to plug in to turn on..& u plug to turn off. Rather UNSAFE. Our poor landfills..earth..planet..no more shredders for me, this is the second one that broke down like this. I’ll shred by hand..it’s quicker. BONSAI BAD! ... show more

I bought this small paper shredder for my kids' apartment. It is small but works great in shredding confidential paper quickly. I only shred 1-3 pieces of paper at a time and it works great. It also can deal with paper clips so there is no need to remove paper clips from the paper before shredding.

I purchased this shredder about a year ago from my home office and it’s already dying. Typically, I shred a handful of items here and there through out the year, and then, once a year, I’ll shred a stack of documents to clean things up and make space for the coming year. My old shredder handled the load well—even if it could only do 1-3 pages at time—and lasted well over ten years. This shredder did great in the beginning. It handled the handful of pages here and there well. But when I started my annual purge the other week, it struggled to shred more than 1-2 pages at a time, over heated quickly, and the switch between settings broke when I tried to switch it on to auto. At least forward still works, but now the machine has to be unplugged to turn off and it can’t shred more than a handful of pages before the pages just stick in the machine while it’s still running. It worked great in the beginning, but it’s disappointing to have to replace something that’s barely a year old. ... show more
