🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Based on the product reviews, this air conditioning unit is powerful and effective at cooling spaces both large and small, even those reaching up to 100F. Users praise its great cooling capacity, effective performance in high humidity, and the added bonus of acting as a white noise machine. However, users point out that the unit's exhaust runs hot and suggested keeping the tube as short as possible, with some noting the necessity of a bucket for draining significant amounts of water produced by the unit.

Pros

  • 🌡 Rapid and powerful cooling capacity even at high temperatures
  • đź’§ Particularly helpful in areas of high humidity
  • 🏕 Ideal for various places including camping trips
  • 🔇 Acts as a white noise machine

Cons

  • 🔥 Exhaust runs hot
  • đź’¦ Produces significant amounts of water requiring frequent draining
  • 🔊 Can be quite loud for some users
  • đź‘€ Some discrepancy in the BTU rating provided

Should I Buy It?

If you need a portable cooling system that can handle high heat and humidity, this product is a strong candidate. Its noise level is a common complaint, but for many, it functions as a white noise machine promoting better sleep. However, prepare for frequent drainage due to the amount of water it produces. In all, it’s a powerful, efficient device worth considering.

  • Great Quality Easy Set-up
Size: 8,000 BTU + Auto Evapotation System
Had mine for almost a year now and I don't have anything bad to say about it. No leaking, no malfunctions, practically ready to go out of the box. The remote control works with ease, the air blows with force, it can cool AND dehumidify at the same time, only thing I could gripe about is the noise is a little louder than I'd expect but it's not that bad and if you like fan noise while you sleep, this is satisfactory. I could see how it could be heavy to move, especially to drain for some folks but it's got a nice handle and the weight is balanced. ... show more

  • No need to screw hose attachment into window frame as some do! Runs very well!
Size: 10,000 BTU
I like that the unit extension fits into the window without having to screw into my window frame as I have seen with other makers. Also, the unit runs very well. Very nice fan, that itself cools a room. The A/C part is quite good, easily cools 15'x12' bedroom that has 3 windows. I am very pleased. In addition, the unit, due to the carrier, had broken a caster wheel in handling the unit. SHINCO simply asked for a photo of the damaged caster etc. and via email arranged for a FED EX delivery of a new caster. I am super pleased with the unit and SHINCO's customer service. I chose the right unit for a reasonable price. Addendum: I see like happened to me others noted the exhaust hose came off or loose. I found the solution as once I clicked in the exhaust hose on the unit, I then twisted the entire exhaust hose within its plastic cap prior to placing it in the window, it tightened it and no further issue of it coming loose. Also, as far as placing the exhaust unit in the window, once clicked in the 'window sealing plate' it wasn't firmly staying in place; I noticed the two small screw holes in the window attachment given (one small screw came in the pkg) and once I expanded the plastic sealing plate into my window I used an awl (ice pick) to punction a dent into the 'window sealing plate, where I then screwed in screws (used a couple drywall screws). My unit is firmly in place. One more thing: I keep my drain hose connected at all times as I see the unit produced a copious amount of water either with A/C or 'Dry' (Humidifier). (I live next to an ocean bay, with heavy humidity this year) It seems the 'DRY' mode is really a low A/C set at 62 and stays automatically on a low fan. I would buy again, and I did so recently at 8000BTU for another room. Amazed how much water is produced, so must keep a watchful eye or use more than a 1 gallon container for an 8 hr. period with the present weather. ... show more

  • Exhaust runs HOT!
Size: 12,000 BTU
12,000 BTU list, box says 7,400 BTU DoE/11,500 BTU ASHRAE. The unit ships in hassle free packaging. Look in the exhaust tube, they put accessories in there. It goes together fast, fit my vertical sliding windows just fine. The only issue with the window kit is that the exhaust adapter does not fit securely. It says you can screw it with the included screws but I'm not sure how. One doesn't line up with anything solid behind it. Colling is great, it has been putting out around 47 degree Fahrenheit. I checked the discharge outside and it was 130! Air at the inlet of the unit is around 80 - 85. Needless to say the exhaust tube in the house puts out a lot of heat. Keep it as short as possible. Also, the adapters to the unit and window exhaust panels are not tight. A simple thing to fix with some tape. I used packing tape and it was fine, made a huge difference in keeping the exhaust out of the house. That being said, I had to put a few towels over the tube to help block some of the radiant heat. It's run great for over a week now, and is not too loud if you compare it to a window unit. It is loud on high, but that is just how AC units seem to be. It's white noise at least. The unit does turn off the fan once the unit hits it's set temperature. That is annoying, I wouldn't say it would be great in a bedroom if you are a light sleeper or that bothers you. Make sure you have a bucket ready. It puts out a lot of water. I have a mop bucket that fills about every 12 hours and it's not humid. Good tip, put the catch container in another one, like a cheap plastic bin. If you don't catch it in time at least the water will not go everywhere. So far I really like it other than the obscene amount of heat being kicked out the exhaust. I know it's working at least! ... show more

  • Works great at first, but doesn’t last, and customer service is very difficult to contact
Size: 10,000 BTU
I bought this portable AC for my bedroom, as I have to be freezing in order to sleep well. At first, I loved it, but after about a year, it started turning off very frequently. Half asleep, I just assumed it had reached temperature and would restart on its own once the temperature in the room increased again. However, it was very frustrating because it would wake me up every time it turned off (it is pretty loud, and the dead silence when turned off is enough to wake me), and it was literally happening every five minutes at times. One night, I just happened to look at the screen when it turned off, and it was throwing the error code E4 (ambient temperature of the machine is too low or the machine is iced up). Of course, when I realized this, it was JUST past the two year warranty timeline, so I had to try to contact Shinco through the email address (provided on their website) instead of through Amazon. I originally emailed on August 11 with no reply, emailed again August 18, never heard back, so I went to their website on August 24 and copied and pasted my issue on their “contact us” form (which they said was blank when they received it), and FINALLY heard back August 26. They proceeded to tell me the warranty is only one year, although on my end it clearly says two years on my product detail order page. They were very rude, refused to help—except to copy and paste what E4 meant (which I already knew), and told me to contact an electrical repair center. When I explained that I had been attempting to contact them for weeks, they pretty much said I was SOL, and they never even attempted to apologize for the lack of communication. I will NEVER purchase from this company or recommend them again. If you like spending a lot of money for something to work a little over a year, this product is for you! ... show more
