  • Super happy with this mini split!
Size: 9,000 BTU, 115V
I purchased this .75 ton single zone system for my master bedroom which is always hotter than the rest of the house. So, this is providing supplemental cooling to a room. I was lucky to have an ideal situation of having space on an exterior wall in the room so the heat pump could be placed just on the other side, with an electrical subpanel within 10' of the unit. So, very straight forward install. I purchased a 2 3/4" hole saw to make a clean hole on my interior drywall, then used a small masonry bit to make a series of small holes in a circle on the outer stucco wall, being careful to create a slight downhill slope from inside to outside. Some comments about the instructions that come with the unit: - the description of wiring connections refers to colors that didn't exist with the kit that I purchased. In the end, colors don't matter a bit, just make sure the order is identical for connections 1,2,3 and ground on both sides of the control cable. - the manual mentions in bold letters to be sure to plug the drain in the drain tray using the supplied plug on the side opposite of where the drain hose is coming out, since it is designed to support either left or right side drains. I couldn't find any plug, so I called support. They said ignore, it's already installed at the factory, and since I didn't need to change it to the other side I was fine. - the manual mentions to test your drain by removing the filter screens and pouring water into the tray. This is not obvious where to pour the water. Tech support said to pour over the evap coils. My first try I poured a little too far back and water ran down my wall. Then I poured a little close to the front and water ran out the drain line like it should, with no leaks. - the very good news is that tech support is available. I probably waited about 5 mins on hold to talk to a tech, and they were very helpful. Once the physical installation of the indoor and outdoor units was complete and the circuit was run, I called my HVAC friend to come over and complete the install. He insisted that we cut the stock flares off the lines and reflare the ends, as the factory ends are usually flared with too much pressure resulting in very thin flares. Sure enough, his flares were much thicker than the ones he cut off. Also, we found a piece of loose copper in one of the 5/8" flare nuts which would have caused leaks for sure. He then made the connections and used nitrogen to test the lines to 700psi for 10 mins, then pulled a vacuum for 10 mins. Finally when he was satisfied that all air was purged from the lines he open the valves to charge the system, and it works perfectly. I had pondered doing that part of the job myself by buying a vacuum pump and gauges on Amazon but I think I'm glad that I ended up paying a pro to do it instead. There are some hazards that only someone with a lot of experience would know to look out for. As some other have mentioned these units are unbeleivably quiet. If it weren't for the fact that I can see the fan moving on the heat pump, I wouldn't know it was running at all. It is really that quiet. Hopefully this will provide many many years of comfort! ... show more

  • 2 years and running great
Size: 18,000 BTU, 230V
I purchased an 18000 BTU Cooper & Hunter 2 years ago. I did loads of research prior to my purchase and settled on this unit. Against the manufacturers instructions and with no previous HVAC experience I installed the unit myself. With a cost of about $400 in required tools (and lots of youtube) I was able to install it with no problems. This saved me approximately $1000 for professional installation in my area. For the last 2 years it has worked flawlessly. Fantastic A/C in the summer and comfy heat in the NY winters. After my experience with this unit I am looking to buy another for my upstairs and now I have all the tools and knowhow necessary to install it without any further investment. This is a great unit and a doable home DIY project if you invest the time. ... show more

  • Very impressed
Size: 12,000 BTU, 115V
Just had the system installed. Done by a professional, but at a low cost because it is quite easy. No special training needed. Right away, love it. It's in the living room/dining room area, so shut off central air most of the day, no need to AC upstairs bedrooms. It runs continuously, so no spikes of AC blast, followed by a warming period. Quiet inside and outside - so nice. Its small size means easy to place and not an eyesore. Has bluetooth. Also, it's 110 voltage plug-in, so much easier to install, without a permit. I've used the better known brands before with great results. So far, this system seems just as good. Only day 2, I'll do an update in a few months. ... show more

  • By FAR the worst experience I've had with a seller. Can't REALLY return an item
Size: 6,000 BTU, 115V
The unit itself is OK. It's quiet and heats when you set it to heat, and cools when you set it to cool. Auto mode doesn't work, but that's not the point. If I could give 0 stars for the purchase and return experience, I would. DO NOT BUY unless you're willing to accept you'll have to pay half the cost of the unit (at best) to be able to return the item, even if it's still in its original packaging, shrink-wrapped on its original pallet. I bought the 6000 BTU unit, and it arrived with a leak (the box was even wet). I spoke with an HVAC tech and they said it would be cheaper to buy a new unit than repair it, so I went ahead and started a return and ordered a new unit. In the meantime, another HVAC tech contacted me and said he could actually repair it for around $400, so I did that and tried to cancel the new order, but it was too late. The response to the original return was that I would be responsible for the cost of return shipping (around $230 at best) and charged a restocking fee with a minimum of 20% of the cost of the unit (so another $130). That was if the unit was in brand new condition in original packaging. Mine arrived broken and the boxes were destroyed, so that fee would have been even higher (up to 50%, so about $325). To return a broken item, I would have to pay almost the same amount of money as I would just buying a whole new unit. This is not a "return policy". They said they could arrange a pickup of the old broken unit and send out a replacement. I thought "okay, awesome", and said I already ordered a replacement that had just been delivered. They said that couldn't be treated as the original's replacement, and I'd still have to pay for return shipping on whichever one I returned. So I'm back to having this $650 mini split in its original box, shrink-wrapped on its original pallet unless I want to spend a minimum of $360 to send it back for ~$300 in a refund if I'm lucky and it doesn't get damaged in shipping. No thanks. Never buying from this company again, and doing whatever I can to prevent anyone else from making the same mistake I did. This all could have been prevented if I could just treat this new unit as a replacement for the old one. ... show more
