  • It is surprisingly quiet. You barely know it is on.
Color: White Size: 12,000 BTU
After central heating and air went completely out of service last summer, I have been forced to look for alternatives because replacing the outrageously expensive central A/C is financially impossible at the moment. So, I have bought Frigidaire, Soleus and now Midea window heat pumps/AC to match or exceed BTU rating of broken central unit. The Frigidaire is the normal (non-inverter) style compressor heat pump. Works FANTASTIC even in sub-zero temps with defrost cycles but is really loud. The Soleus is an inverter heat pump and VERY quiet. It also works extremely well in very cold temps with excellent defrost function. The Midea is extremely quiet would be easily the best of all three but for one fatal flaw. No defrost cycle. It will not work below 41 degrees F outside. If your outside temps never go below 41 degrees overnight in the winter, you may not need a heater at all. This unit would be perfect and by FAR the best window heater/AC on the market if it could only defrost. What were they thinking? They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory here. Update: Sometime this winter Midea did a software update on this unit over WiFi since I have connected to the internet. They MUST have installed a defrost cycle. Because one day it just started defrosting when it was FAR below 40 degrees F. It formerly would give a low temp error code. This means it was software limited to not operate below 40. But now, it worked great even in the mid 20 degree F nights I had this winter. So, I bought another one while I could. Update#2. I did get another one as stated above. The newer one has different firmware, that I cannot update/change from the app for some reason, than the other one and DOES NOT work as well when it goes below 40 degrees F. So it is definitely something about the firmware involved. I have two identical units in the same house with different firmware and one continues working and defrosting LONG after the other shuts down and shows "Lo" error code. ... show more

  • Reasonable price
Color: White Size: 5,000 BTU
I purchased this $5,000 BTU AC unit for my 12 volt solar generator build. The unit is small and fits in one of my windows easily. The reason I bought it, it was reasonably priced and many comments were very positive with this AC unit. I will only use it in case of an emergency for example a electrical blackout. So far, it works well in my trial. It quickly cools off a small room without any issues. For my needs it's a very good product. I recommended for a small room only and in case of an emergency. To be used with a 12 volt or 48 volt generator system. ... show more

  • I like it but had to drill a hole in it
Color: White Size: 12,000 BTU
I live in Southern California where it rarely frosts. This 12k btu unit is cooling and heating half of my 2k sq ft house minus the 3 bedrooms. Most nights don't get below 40. The heat will shut off on my 12000 btu unit at about 36F even with the latest firmware. I bought this mostly for the heater and it has been performing well all winter. For my climate, it's almost perfect. For me, a 28F shut off would be ideal. I understand that is is difficult to produce a heat pump at this size and price range and have it heat at very low temps. It can only reach about 67F inside when it's in the 40s outside but that's fine with me. It's pretty loud on the outside in my experience, louder than the LG non inverter window AC it replaced. Pretty quiet on the inside once the set temp is reached and held. It also vibrates a bit when first turned on and working hard. The classic app works pretty good, the new one doesn't seem as good but you aren't forced on it yet. The biggest issue I have had is the condensation on the outside. It has the spray the water back on the condenser design which, when humid, creates way too much water and it soaks the whole outside unit including the outside wall. The spray the condenser design doesn't work well when used as a heater so I had to drill a small hole at the back on the bottom to drain the condensation. This has worked well. No more water all over the place. They need to add a drain plug so you can choose to drain it if needed. It needs a metal grid on the back to protect the fins of the condenser. I added one. The filter is flimsy and doesn't give the confidence that it seals very well. It does leak a little bit of outside air to the inside no matter how well you seal it to the window opening. It's an efficient AC and heater. It uses less electricity than the smaller 10K btu AC it replaced. I would buy it again if it's going to last. I hope this heat pump technology continues to evolve for in the window units. ... show more

  • Powerful and quiet
Color: White Size: 12,000 BTU
This is our first inverter unit and it makes me want to replace our other 2 air conditioners because it's so much quieter and more efficient. Our place gets so hot in the summer, as we have a completely exposed property line on the east, south, and west side, so we get hammered by the summer sun from sun up to sundown. It's not uncommon to see high 80s to low 90s in some rooms. That's compounded by the fact that we have 10 foot ceilings on the main floor that just hold the heat. We have 8k units in the bedrooms, which have standard 8 foot ceilings, and they can struggle to keep up in a heatwave, so I wasn't sure that a 12k would even make much of a dent in the larger living area, but we rolled the dice. This unit cools down about 500 square feet very quickly, and we don't have to shout over it. It's awesome. I haven't tried to connect it to Wifi or anything yet. Installation was as straightforward as any other window unit I've had. Next summer I will probably retire one of our older, loud units and replace it with another one of these. ... show more
